I'm looking into making some nappies and hoping someone could give me a rough figure for how much it might cost to buy initial supplies?
TIA

It depends on what type of nappies you wish to make and of course what you want to make them out of.
Best thing to do is shop around the suppliers ... you can check them out HERE (scroll down the page to nappy making supplies).
Good luck.![]()

Thanks Nic, I'm looking at pockets or AI2's, and for starters using the cheapest materials (until I get the hang of it)
I'm just being lazy by posting this question, not wanting to look up individual prices and hoping someone would have a rough figure![]()
It depends on alot of factors though ... will you be buying things in bulk or individual nappy cuts, using microfibre, hemp or bamboo, PUL outers or minkee, velcro closures or snaps?
I'd say a VERY rough cost if you bought in nappy cuts, supplies from a couple of places, minkee outers, PUL, microfleece, elastic, velcro and bamboo you'll be over the $20 mark each nappy.
But that is a very rough idea ... sometimes you might be able to get everything from one supplier and they are having specials ... it pays to shop around.

If you just want to practice, I'd go to Spotlight and buy the cheapest fabric you can find and just make a few up that way and once you are happy with everything, then buy the correct materials and go from there.

I was thinking of buying enough materials to make a couple or a few at first. Not sure on fabrics yet, thought I'd start on whatever is cheapest so spotlight is a good idea. I'd be starting with velcro too. But if it's going to be costing around $20/nappy I'm thinking I might be wasting my time and should just go the shop bought option. Decisions, decisions...
Perhaps I should have phrased the question more like "How much can you save making your own nappies opposed to buying brand name nappies"...
Yep, that's just what I was going to say. Buy a metre of polar fleece and a metre of microfleece from spotlight. You should be able to make at least 6 nappies from this and the fabric will probably cost you around $30. Not sure how much the velcro will cost. Get some bamboo or hemp from an online store and that will probably cost you around, um, $20 a metre?? for that you can probably make, enough trifolds or whatever for the 6 nappies. So for $50 + velcro and elastic you should be able to make 6 nappies.
