    Default mothers & babies group

i have my first meetup on tuesday with new mums group organised through the maternal & child health centre in my area, & was just wondering as to what usually happens at these & what your personal experiences & feelings were the first time you went (if you went)
Im pretty nervous about it, as Im single & scared I wont have anything in common with anyone, so Im wondering If I should actually go???
    cheers Renee x

My thoughts are give it a go - you may be surprised
If you find that you don't get along with anyone or don't enjoy yourself then you can always just not return.
I'm a very shy, nervous person so meeting new people terrifies me but i have made an effort to meet other mums and it can be a positive thing
You already have something in common with the other women in the group - you have a baby. If nothing else you have that and chatting to someone who is going though the same baby stuff as you could be very reassuring.

    How's the serenity?

I love my new baby group! Each week we go round and talk about how things have been going with baby. Then there are specific topics we cover eg sleep and settling, development, immunisation, new mum care etc We each take a turn of taking morning tea. Next week is our last group as it only goes for five weeks, but we have decided to keep meeting as a group at each others houses.

I think you should go especially being a single mum. It gives you a chance to meet new people who are going through the same experience as you and you will realise that your baby isn't the only one who cries in the middle of the night, who has wind and who tires you out all day.

My advice is to give it a good go, don't make an opinion on your first session. I have a fabulous group that have been together for about 20 mths. We have all said at the start we didn't like it but are very very happy we persisted coz we all just love it now.

Groups are all run differently but ours was over a 6 week period the first hour was a particular topic eg. sleep, feeding and the 2nd hour was just an opportunity for us to talk to each other.

Within a couple of weeks of our group a session to a mum and bubs movie session was planned (outside the weekly visits), while I was still not really friendly with anyone in the group I just went anyway and that is where friendships really developed. If you make an effort others will too.

Hi I have been part of one for 9 months now and really enjoy it.
At first everyone is shy, so you won't be the only one.
It took a while for my group to get to know one another and there is a very diverse mix, so some have bonded more than others.
Give it a go, I'm glad I did and also when your bub is a bit older she will have some great playmates.

You probably will have to talk infront of everyone, I would expect as an introduction. From memory we said our names, how old bubs was, if we were breast or bottle feeding, how bubs was born natural or c-sec, just stuff like that - stuff you certainly know. Don't let that put you off.
