childproof rug...what to look for?

Our rug is getting pretty gross, we gave up getting stains out a while ago because we were going to replace it, then we decided to keep it, now it's just too far gone and we need to replace it lol
What kind of things do I look for in a rug so it will be easy to keep clean and looking nice? What materials? colours? cleaning methods?

Synthetic wears well and cleans well. We have a synthetic traditional style rug (google images traditional rug if you're not sure what I mean) hides every stain, it's awesome

I find the best rugs are made with New Zealand wool. They are not the cheapest but are soft, plush, have good stain resistance and best of all
being wool are a natural fiber.

Edit to add- I have a cream Bholu NZ wool rug in the family room, the boys, being boys have spilt their drinks on it numerous times and Lacey has been sick on it, yet there isn’t one stain, it looks like new even after three years!
