Hi Everyone,
My little girl is 6wks old and I can't believe how fast she feeds. She literally feeds for 5-8mins then pulls off. I change her nappy, let her have a little rest & offer her the same breast again for a few more minutes. As she is having more awake time now I usually leave it at that until she shows tired signs & offer her the other breast before putting her to bed. She MAY have a minute or two on that side but usually nothing.. At night she wakes up for a feed & all she will have is the first breast 5-8mins & thats it.
I understand that she is obviously getting all she needs as she has plenty of wet nappies, had gained weight last time she was weighed (1.5kgs in 4weeks) & is content until the next feed which is usually 4hrs with the odd catch up feed after 2-3 hrs if she has had a long 5 hr stint through the night.
Today has been different. More then likely her 6week growth spurt as she has been feeding every 2 hours or more often & seems be be wanting more. She will feed for awhile, I get the letdown & she is happy for a few mins then she starts pulling back from the breast, latching off & on, grizzling & just generally unsettled.. All growth spurt related?
I guess I just need reassurance that the speed feeds are ok. Anyone else have a fast feeder? im worried that the off & on / pulling away from the breast I've seen today is going to continue. This is what happened with my other children & quickly made breastfeeding a horrible experience. I hope its just a growth spurt today that is unsettling her.
Thanks for reading. Hope I made sense.
Rachelle x
