Thankyou to everyone so far for all the advice!! Feeling very motivated, havent had any chocolate so far this morning... already have a stinking headache though...

Suppose Im gunna have to start cooking more often and learn some new recipies... Just a few questions...

Whats the better option out of wholemeal and multigrain breads??

Out of Margarine and Butter which is better??

& is there really much difference between fresh, frozen & tined fruit & veg??

You will probably have withdrawal headaches for a day or so, that's normal.

Any wholemeal/wholegrain bread is better than white, and if you can afford it why not buy organic, Coles has a good range.

Spreads like Olive Grove are better than butter, more healthy fats, but an even better option is mustards or stuff like that which has less fat.

Frozen vegies are actually pretty good, as they are snap frozen close to picking, so it's quite ok to use a combination of fresh and frozen vegies depending on what you need it for.

As for fruit, fresh is better, although frozen berries are great.

multigrain is better - but best is the brown breads with seeds. Some multigrains are simply white bread with a few seeds.

Butter/Margarine... depends. Butter is more natural but still high in fats. Margarine is artificial but there are some good lower fat varieties. I usually use a light cream cheese spread on toast.

As for veg, some people say frozen is best because the nutrients are locked in - but you can beat fresh raw veg either. Steaming is the best method of cooking, or stir frying. Tinned fruit is OK (only the kind packed in natural juice NOT syrup) but has been peeled so lacks the fibre of fresh.

Thanks again! How do you know whether the multigrain is a brown bread...or is it labelled differently...

With all the money I'll be saving from chocolate I can probably spend more on organics/fresher produce etc.

How long will it take to see a change in my energy levels, headaches, nausea etc around about??

Look for loaves that have these words on them: "wholemeal", "wholemeal sourdough", that sort of thing. There's an organic brand called 'Bills', I get that from Coles when I haven't had time to make my own bread (we barely ever buy bread now, I always make ours by hand using half wholemeal half white flour).

just look at the loaf - the darker the better.

I buy most of my veg from the f & v shop and its so cheap compared to buying over processed foods. One thing I always do is make vegie soup to eat prior to a meal to help me feel fuller and get in extra serves of vegies. Even if I have pizza, I have a salad or a bowl of steamed vegies on the side.

It will take a few days to detox from chocolate. Try and exercise and keep hydrated - it will help keep you motivated and really makes you feel better. I love going for a late afternoon stroll prior to dinner.

Oh - and when I have a chocolate craving, I have one of the moo paddlepops. They are really yum

I love the burgen breads, the wholemeal and seeds and the soy and linseed in particular - makes the yummiest salad sambo's.

I love the dark rye as well, I was never given white bread as a kid and I just can't eat white bread now, it doesn't make me feel satisfied just full of sugar.. - I'm so grateful my mum fed us super healthy food, and I want to do the same for my kids.
Except maybe not the carob.. I am also a chocolate fiend but the more you eat it the more you crave it, just like sugar.. I found when I avoided it completely I lost interest in it, but then I get AF and I usually bake some chocolate pecan cookies or cupcakes - something naughty, but at least when I have a treat I know exactly what's in it, you know?

With LSA I put it on loads of things, sprinkled on my muesli in the morning or porridge in winter, in smoothies.
I noticed with the LSA my skin and hair is always better.

Another simple way of adding good food to your diet, is to always always include a salad with dinner, we almost always have lettuce, rocket, avo, mungbean sprouts, sprouts with dinner with some nice balsamic on it. I tend to snack on stuff after dinner if I don't have a good salad, and I really think over eating for me was because I wasn't getting the nutrients I actually needed so I would eat a whole bunch of empty calories and still be 'hungry'

DF hated the concept of mungbean sprouts and laughed it off as more of my 'hippy food' , but now he will sit and munch them and chickpea sprouts like chips as they are crunchy and sweet and yummy.
