Default Does he understand my flash cards?

i made some simple flash cards for DS when he was about 4 months - just pictures of mum, dad, our dog and a few other simple toys. i added a few more a few months ago so now we have about 20 with things he is familiar with like shoes, sippy cup, bottle, nan, pa etc.

he is now just over 12 months. the other day they were all spread out on the floor and he wandered over, found the one with the bottle and brought it over to me and gave me a big grunt (he makes a sound like 'nup!' when he's trying to tell me something). i thought is he just playing and stuff or does he want a milk? lo and behold i got him a milk and he scoffed the lot, and he's not usually one to be excited by any food other than strawberries and he rarely drinks a full bottle these days.

is this just a fluke or is it likely that DS could be starting to communicate this way? he's not really saying any words yet except babbling mum mum, dada and na-na (banana).

i am not really sure, at a place called gymbaroo they show babies words like the word ball and supposedly they can recognise the word but can read it, it becomes more a symbol than a word to them.
so it may be the same thing.

I think it could be his way of communicating. If he isnt really saying words yet, and he drank the milk after he bought yu the pic i would say he was communicating. Its like when you teach a baby sign language and thats one way they communicate. If you have done it from a young age they do recgonize it, sorta like you reading the same book over and over again and saying to your 12mth old point to the rabbit and they point to the rabbit.
