    Question Hypnobirthing in S/E Melbourne

Have just been enquiring about Hypnobirthing and would really like anyone's experience and cost and where located, please.

We've been quoted $490 by new lady on the Peninsula.
5 x 2.5hrs group classes (although she doesn't have anyone else booked in yet) and includes book and cd/dvd.
    Is this standard cost ?

Is this something we could teach ourselves ?
I used visualisation, is it similiar to that ?

Was it effective in managing your pain ? I'm pretty much assuming positive answers here as all the births I've seen (videos) using this technique have been soo tranquil.

Anyways, any comments/info would be muchly appreciated.

We did hypnobirthing classes but it was in Heidelberg. We paid under $425 for 5 x 2.5 hr classes and they were one on one. We got the hypnobirthing book and cd's. Throughout the sessions, she would give me some cd's and also some nice essential oils. She also made me up a folder with a lot of articles on childbirth and hypnobirthing techniques.

In the end I had an emergency c-section but I think it still came in handy when putting in the epidural. I was really scared and just used the visualisation techniques that were taught.

You could prob do it on your own by just meditating everyday but we found actually going somewhere and having someone guide us was better for us.

    Thanks Lollie.

We've found a local Midwife who also teaches Hypnobirthing so gunna enquire where, how much etc etc. We've also been looking at some relaxation techniques whereby you learn to relax certain muscles when your support person touches you. It's all gotta help I figure

    HI!
Check out Lotus CalmBirth with Lainey.
DH and I just completed a two day w/e course (9-3) and both loved it.
She's a midwife who works at Monash and has lots of knowledge and great stories!
I really liked her approach and felt empowered I CAN have the birth I want!
She works in Seaford (close to you!) and costs $360 for course, books and cd's.
You HAVE to practice what she says though!
My Doula has worked with lots of ladies who have done her course and it does work, she vouches for it!
If you need any other info let me know, I think she's fabulous!
“When people say, "You really, really must" do something, it means you don't really have to. No one ever says, "You really, really must deliver the baby during labor." When it's true, it doesn't need to be said.”

hi im in the s/east but i havent been to any class's. im also interested in hypnobirthing for my second bubs due in june. my cousin lent me a cd she used with her 2nd son, and she said birth was a much better experience with practicing this cd. its called hypnobirthing natural and painless childbirth hypnosis. anywho your suppose to listen to it as often as you can, like every day if you have the chance to prepare yourself and learn the relaxation methods. so i listened to it for the first time yesterday. it is basically visulisations. she also trys to convince you that you can birth easily and comfortably. its also got subliminal messages to put you in a trance while your listenng to it. i didnt go into a trance..i cant block out my mind that easily...but i did go into a deep relaxation while still being extreamly alert. it was kind of nice. im sure with some practice i can learn and remember what i need to do during birth....nothing lost here, didnt cost me a cent! maybe head to the local library and search for a hynosis disk? or even a new age store? i mena unless you want to attend the class's. i would attend them but i know how painfull birth is lol so im not going to waste money just incase i cant handle the pain still. oh and you could just use your dh to rub your back and legs and neck with massage oil or essential oils or something...could help.

Thanks for that Dee I'll try and find a copy of that. I sorta thought that's what hypnobirthing was but wasn't sure.
I've birthed six bubs myself and actually love labour but my DD is pregnant and very afraid so trying anything & everything to equip her with some coping skills/mechanisms.
I too was afraid we would spend all this money and it wouldn't be useful so I guess trying the cd first is a great idea.
I used visualisation in my last birth and some meditation tapes I listened to for the last few months but they were sorta more affirmations of trust and belief in my body as I chose to freebirth. I also laboured and birthed in the bath this last time which was just awesome.
