    Exclamation humming instead of speaking?

in the bath today we lined our ducks up.. we have 6 all different sizes.. lined up in height order. and dh counts.. 1,2,3,4,5,6.. and points. then again with seth pointing.

then seth hums while pointing and it sounds like the numbers.

like hum one, hum 2,hum 3,hum 4, hum 5, hum 6. he can also hum twinkle twinkle little star.

so we know he is learning as such but how do we go about teaching him to speak.. or is that the whole point of early intervention?

is the humming good or bad? do we keep encouraging it?

    opinions please

The humming is GREAT!!! It shows he is understanding what you are trying to communicate to him and that he is responding and communicating back to you.

It shows that he is keen and willing to engage with you in a verbal way. He is just doing it in his own way!

Im sure early intervention will have LOTS of tips and ideas to encourage promote communication! Im only a graduate teacher and dont pretend to know everything but you seem to be doing a VERY good job with your DS. The fact that you are so keen and enthusiastic to keep trying no matter how discouraged you become is great! I really respect that!
