    Default Caesarean Second Time Round

    Hello Everyone

When my first child was born, I ended up being about a week and a half over so I was induced. In 9 hours I had only managed to dialate about 2cms so I was given the option of a caesarean (which I took)due to failure to progress.

What I was wondering is it up to the hospital or is it at my discretion to opt for another caesarean this time round? I know VBAC is very possible, but I'm not sure I want to take that option anyway.

    Any info would be appreciated....

    Thanks

    Emma

P.S. Is it possible to use a ticker graph thing on this forum?

I know where you are coming from. My daughter was 9 days over and I went through 12 hours labour .... although I had fully dialated she couldn't descend ... she was TOO big and so I ended up with a c-sect. Then when I found out I was pregnant again and went back to the obstetrician he laid everything on the table and said that as the next child will probably be large as well (MOST times (not always) babies get progressively larger) I could have the possiblity of another emergency c-sect if I tried a vbac.

I left it until I was 30 weeks before making up my mind. The obstetrician booked a "probable" date so that whe my mind was made up I could cancel or confirm. It made the process Alot easier as I was able to get a real (ROUGH) picture of how big my baby was going to be.

I chose the c-sect (Declan was born just over 8lbs and I wouldn't have been able to birth him anyway) and with a spinal block I had no troubles. Apart from the expected panic sitting outside the theatre - but I ALWAYS get that.

I Hope through sharing MY story I was able to help you out. THe most important thing you need to do is to listen to your gut. If deep down you think that c-sect is the RIGHT way at that time then don't let anyone persuade you otherwise. If you decide to go Vbac .... Fair play to you ... and good luck.

    Hi Emma!
Most hospitals will give you the choice of an elective caesar because you've had one already. However its important to understand that there's risks involved with both a repeat caesar and a VBAC. Its completely your choice though - and dont let anyone pressure you either way!

Oh - and as for the ticker, we arent allowed to have them. (It slows the loading of the pages down too much). You can put a hyperlink in your signature to bring up the ticker in a new page though.

I had an emergency caesar (due to Jack being posterior, and he had a deflexed head), and after having some x-rays for chiropractic care, it turns out that I have a small pelvis, that is also some how fused to part of my spine, so my OB has advised that it would be advisable to have a caesar, expecially because Jack was so small (5lb 6.5oz) and I did not labour very well with a baby that size, so he does not want to take any risks for No.2

I went through the same thing as well. 9 days overdue, was induced, baby was still in posterior position and only dialated 4 cm in 8 hours.
Now with bub two on the way i'm opting for caesar again only because i feel it's a safer option. Sorry but why go through labour again and only to find out i could have a caeser anyways!
It's your choice, i know my obstertrician encouraged to have a caeser but midwifes encourage to have a vbac. If you really wana go through that again by all means give it a go.
Labour completely turned me off the whole birth thing. I found it very scarey and i wouldn't have the guts to try again!
Anayways let us know what u decide ok!

I think it depends al ot on wether your in private or public..

I'm in private and electing c/sec for my first (not due to any health complications) and I didnt have any problems at all getting what I wanted/specifically asked for.

    good luck

Red face Katie 24, Tahlia 2.5 (Isabella due mid July)

Hi this is my first ever post

Im Electing to have a C-section 2nd time around through public system, as im not happy with the risks of a VBAC, also due to maternal destress.

Tahlia was also late, so i was induced 8 days after EDD, i reacted badly to the progesteron gel and went into full blowen labor with no warm up. dialated 8cm in 3 hours, had every drug i could, then fetal destress was detected. So she was wiped out of my tummy in 3 minute, With an apgar score of only 4.

So im always telling people to try and go into labor on there own, not a fan of induction.

The hospital told me this time that they can't make you do anything you dont want to do, because if something then goes wrong they can be sued. So if you want a C section they can't say no. Specially if your really upset about the whole thing.

I was told by my doc that if you have a ceaser you cant have a normal birth cause it will rip the scar open ! but i have heard of people that have had a ceaser and then a natural birth so who knows what is true and what isnt ! although my babies were both over 8 pound!

There is also equal chance of a 1st time mum getting uterine rupture from being induced! That doc you spoke to lied to you to scare you.

There is a 99% chance the scar will not rupture - seems like a pretty low risk to me

there are some stats over in the VBAC section about this.....VBAC (vaginal birth after c/section), if you desired it, is a very safe option. Women do it all the time - I have, and intend to do it again in a couple of weeks
