Red face Trying to NOT put on weight, while pregnant...

Basically, I am fat, and I have already put on 4 kgI really, would prefer not to put on anymore weight or very little for the remainder of my pregnancy.

So any thoughts on how I can do this? Without dieting????
Or who I can ask for help, my GP just says, well don't

    Thanks

Don't eat for 2. Your baby only needs a small amount, equivalent to an apple to grow.

Don't give in to cravings, unless of course they are fruit ones.

Steer clear of carbs and eat lots of fresh fruit and vegies. Instead of having chedder on crackers have low fat philadephia on celery. Find healthier alternatives to your favorite snacks.

    Walk, WALK, WALK!

I put on 50 kgs with Kaid and this time as of 30 weeks I have only put on 12 kgs so I am doing alot better! Not totally happy with it but I did give in to chocolate way too much this pregnancy so had I been strong I would have put on alot less.

Don't cut down your eating, just make it all healthy. As I said before fresh fruit and vegies .

Not a good idea to be trying to lose weight whilst pregnant but sensible eating, lotsa fresh foods(fruit and vege especially dark leafy vege), cut down carbs but don't eliminate entirely (cereal, bread, potatoes, pasta, rice etc), but bulk up on protein and moderate excercise like walking or swimming and the weight you put on should just be the bubs and fluid.
Replace coffee, teas, fruit juices, soft drinks etc with herbal teas, you can drink cold with a bit of sugar to sweeten. I like green tea and found the weight started to fall off even though I wasn't dieting or excercising that hard at the time.

Be gentle on yourself, I know all too well where you are coming from but a healthy (physically, mentally and emotionally) mum is more important then that number on the scales.

It is time for women to take back their births and give themselves and their babies the best chance at a miraculous start. Birth, or its effects—both good and bad—last a lifetime.

You could try gentle excercise like aqua aerobics or just walking around the block (its gets harder to get out there when it gets hot though)

My local gym has classes for pregnant women, with gym ball exercises and Yoga and "spin classes" fancy word...but really you sit on a bike and pedal till she says stop LOL
maybe you should check out the kind things your local gym has?

oh and btw your not fat your pregnant! there is a bit of a difference lol

Eat more sensibly and exercise, but not extreme exercise and LISTEN to your body.

I was eating really well and enough like I was never hungry. I was also keeping up with the gym like before I was utd cause I didnt want to blow out. But they dont recommend starting exercise that you werent doing before so like the ladies have said preggy exercise class, walking or aqua classes would be good for you. The biggest advice my trainer gave me is not to push through tiredness or pain to exercise (I box) like I used to. To rest heaps and take my time

But I had a few episodes where I was a bit faint and nauseous and the dr told me to eat more bread and potatos (I wasnt really eating carbs before that cause its just not part of my non preg diet so wasnt conciously keeping them out). Your body needs a really good balance of everything. Like Freya says its not eating for two (apparently they only need the equivalent of 2 pieces of fruit per day in energy) but what you put into your body for you an d your recovery is very important.

I put on 5kg really quickly in this pregnancy (before 4-5months) and have only put on another 2-3 now so dont panic about 4kg at your stage....

    Thanks for that PD

Thanks everyone for your fantastic advise.
I have been so worried about getting "too big". I know with Christmas and all those yummy foodsI have induldged a bit too much, but I want to get myself into gear now.
I can not believe that whole one apple/two pieces of fruit to make a baby, man the way your appetite is sometimes, I am sure it is more

I have started using my cross-trainer again, which is great.
Heres hoping I can keep weight gain to a minimum

Thanks heaps again girlsI just got so overwhelmed, and confused.

Moderate exercise and healthy eating and you shouldn't put on too much weight. I followed my Obs advice and I didn't put on any weight with my first two pregnancies. I put on all my weight after bub was born

I use to go swimming most days, it was great. When you get the hunger spurts just choose sensible foods or foods that are low in GI to keep you fuller for longer.

    You can do it!

    Hey,

When i went for my first hospital visit, the midwife told me i am overwieght and recommended that i go to a dietician. I was moritifed as i am big but i didnt think that big. But since visiting i havent gained aby weight and i just watch what goes into my mouth.

But maybe even a dietician could help, recommend an appropriate diet for you as a pregnant woman.

Hope that helps, but im thinking of ya as i am in the same boat

You shouldn't cut out carbs when pregnant. Especially complex carbs. As the baby needs these to grow.

If you have cravings and it's something fattening, the best thing to do is just have a nibble or just a very small piece of it. That way it satisfies your craving.

Also, regarding cravings, it does say if you are craving something in particular, then your body is needing something that's in that item of food. So you should let yourself have a little of it.

I know everyone says you shouldn't 'diet', but it depends on how bad your diet was before getting pg. If you follow a fairly healthy diet, and don't eat more calories than you need, you won't put on too much weight. I put on about 8kgs with DS (and he was 4kg), and I am now 30 weeks pg and have put on about 4-5kg. I just haven't changed my diet at all since before I was pg - ie I don't eat more than I did before. Plus I've been doing exercise classes 2-3 times a week for pregnant women, with lots of cardio and strength training and that's making me more toned on my arms and legs than I was before getting pg.

Its not hard or confusing - just don't use pregnancy as an excuse to eat more of the things you know you shouldn't.
