Default hubby possibly get relocated to Adelaide

    Hey Ladies,

DH possibly being relocated to Adelaide next year from Jan 07. Just looking at how liveable Adelaide is in general for families, are there things to do? Is there much crime? Any good areas to live thats close to 1RTU Edinburgh. Is the cost of living good eg elec costs, rego, food, petrol etc. Any info would be appreciated.

    Thanks in advance

    Hi Kel

If you are into food and wine then you will love Adelaide. I moved here about 4 years ago and found the transition very easy. Just watch out for the crazy Adelaide drivers - I think we are the road rage capital of Australia!

    Hi Kel

I'm an Adelaide girl, living in Brisbane now. Hopefully I can help you a little. Stay away from Davoren Park. Some parts of Elizabeth are a bit dodgy. Craigmore is nice as is Andrews Farm. I'm pretty sure Blakeview has some new estates. Burton also has some nice new estates just being developed. Salisbury also has some not so good areas but I'm not exactly sure anymore where they are. Golden Grove is lovely, I know DHA have a few houses in Wynn Vale - also nice. All these suburbs are maximum about 10 -15 mins drive from Edinburgh. Crime around some parts of Salisbury & Elizabeth is quite high but the other areas are the same as anywhere, it does happen but it happens in the best of neighbourhoods.

My parents say petrol is pretty expensive, but you will get that nearly anywhere now - $1.30 ish is average. I think you'll find food & bills are on par with the rest of Australia. Rego isnt too bad - you can pay 3,6,9 or 12 months & no need for regular safety inspections (unless you have a dodgy car!) You also dont need to worry about getting seperate compulsary 3rd party insurance, it's all included in the one with your rego. House prices are cheap. My friend just built a house at Burton - 4 bedroom, air con, landscaping & land for $220K. But if you have a DHA house you dont have to worry about that.

As for things to do, there is the Barossa Valley - about 30 mins from Edinburgh. Victor Harbor, Adelaide Hills, Murray River. Lots of beaches (no waves but still nice).

I left SA 5 years ago, but would move back in a heart beat if the Army would let us!

I hope this this helps a little, good luck - let me know if I can help in any other way.

    Sharon

Thanks Sharon for information. It will come in handy when we get posted there at the end of the year.
