paying for bags @ Target **vent**

Has anyone been to target lately??

They've introduced the new bio-degradable bags but....

they charge 10cents PER BAG!!!!

i am all for saving the environment and trying to create less pollution etc but why should we the consumers have to pay for a bag, when we're already buying the item (s) from that store.

I think each store should wear the cost, i cant imagine it costing THAT much extra per bag so buy in these new super dooper bio-degradable bags from their distributors.

As of Jan 1 2009, all supermarkets etc have only x4 months to stop using plastic bags and face heavy fines if caught dispensing bags after this time.

I have a couple of green bags, but i also find the plastic shopping bags great for bin liners and re-using them if i need to take something somewhere etc. So i am still recyling the bags, and not getting home, unpacking the shopping and throwing the bags in the rubbish bin.

I think its REALLY rude to be charging 10 cents per bag....or am i the only "tight" one around here??

Surely, if we really wanted to save our environment we would look at fast food places.... how many of us have seen fast food car parks, shopping centres strewn with their chains burger wrappers etc... cut down on packaging, that will save the landfill content quicker!

10 cents isn't really that much.

Perhaps it would be a better idea to buy some more of the bio-bags to take with you from now on to save some money.

I do see your point though as supermarkets will be making the profit from them as well as the shopping.

Yeah!! It's my choice to ruin the environment - I shouldn't have to pay to do so

In all honesty, I don't know what I'm going to do when there's no more plastic bags in the supermarket because every week without fail I forget the 20+ recyclable bags I have

Not to mention, I'll probably just end up buying more bags anyway for rubbish around the house.

I try and take my own bags whenever i remember anyway . I don't see 10c as too much to pay for a few bags, esp when you consider what is at stake.

The thinking behind it is that having paid 30c or whatever, you will think to yourself "I'll make a point of remembering my green bag next time."

Next time you forget, you might think, "I'll put them in the car as soon as I get home."

Hey presto, half a dozen birds are saved from swallowing plastic or whatever.

My only beef is that 10c isn't enough of a disincentive, tbh.

I think it's a great idea. For those people who don't want to spend the money, they can either go bagless or bring their own!
I live in a 'shire' where plastic bags are banned altogether. We have to take our own 'green' bags shopping. Sometimes I forget which is an absolute pain, but it's still a good idea IMO

I guess if the stores paid it would defeat the purpose-being that we are being encouraged to use less bags (biodegradable or not), we are less likely to say no to bags if they are free and when we are charged we are forced to make a decision if we really do need/want one.

even green bags, ok they're $1.00 too, i have a couple but again like most people i forget them, so its going to cause havoc at the shops when someone's put all their food on the conveyor belt only to forget their green bags, so bring on the "fun" at the check out...

i think plastic bags are "ok" i dont welcome them, but i do think its ok to use a few of them after shopping (i probably use about 10 a week) but then i also re-use them.

how many people here use little bags to put the dirty nappies in??? same principle....

i'd what about the times u go "window shopping" with no intention to buy anything but something is too good to refuse/walk past... why should we have to pay for it... i know i often find myself buying something i hadnt planned to. So i guess now we're all going to have to carry around a few green bags with us each time we leave the house???

you work out 10 cents each time you forget to take ur green bags with u.... i know mine and DP's wage doesnt go up to cover the cost of "helping the environment".

If you forget your green bags, well, tough, pretty much. It's your job to remember.
I think to complain is a little over the top in my opinion, but may not be in others?
We don't even have to option of plastic bags here, so you should feel lucky

To be honest i think all this is stupid i use the plastic bags to line my bin so i resused them - by me not haveing plastic bags anymore means i have to buy bin liners - so how is that helping the environment
