    Default Johnsons baby products...

So I have one of those friends who is an expert on everything, and when I was talkign about getting a Johnsons hamper from Chrisco for next year, so rambled on about how bad these products are for baby. Now I did a search and found nothign adverse, and everyone I know uses Johnsons - so what the hell would she be on about?

Johnson's baby products contain a heck of a lot of chemicals that are known to cause adverse skin reactions (so do a lot of commercially-available cosmetics!). Things like sodium laurel/laureth sulphates, which are essetially foaming agents, but also used in animal testing as a known skin-irritant.

Given that babies have an acid mantel that protects their skin, these products break through that acid mantel and cause a lot of skin irritations, like eczema, dryness and rashes.

Its every parent's choice what products they use on their baby of course But your friend was actually right....and I've always found water and a face washer to be sufficient until they're running around and actually getting dirty in any case - natural baby smell is absolutely divine, I don't know why so many people feel the need to cover it up with artificial perfumes

i wish they were natural products because they smell sooooo nice, but id agree that they are no good for baby! and i wont buy or use them!!!

my son has eczema- fairly tame now.. but newborn-12 months was so horrible. he was red raw and would sctratch him self so much that he would bleed.

he still has very sensitive skin so i have to be careful what i use. i use QV washes and oils for the bath or the Alpha kerri range.

something that really bothers me with johnsons products is that one day when i was using them in the beginning i had a look at where there made, and every product in my house was made somewhere different, malaysia, china, thailand, greece, singapore. im like what is up with that!! its like who ever can make them a big batch for cheapest is who they go for.

i prefer to use australian products.

I used johnsons on DD. It's what they had in the hospy, and most other people with babies i knew were using it, so i figured it must be the best. DD had cradle cap, dry skin at times, and often got hte red blothcy patches on her skin.

By the time DS was born, i had done alot more reading, so apart from the occassional bit of Q-V bath oil - he was washed with nice warm water and a washer. He never had cradle cap and always had/has the most beautiful skin. I must admit, i LOVe the smell of the night-time bath, so do use it now he is older (19months) but that's only been a recent thing. IMO they don't need nasty chemicals stripping their perfect skin of moisture.

Never really used it much but not for any real reason except I didn't think too.

I clearly recall just before DS1 was born and I was in the baby aisle of the supermarket. Standing in the vicinty of the powder and this random lady comes up, never seen her before and the only thing she said to me was
"If you have a boy don't use that *points at J Powder* on him down there *points down*. It will give him cancer of the testes."

WTF that was all she said, I nervously nodded and quickly ran off.

Who says that to a random person about their unborn bub.

She must have heard bad reports

She was actually rights - but its even MORE dangerous for a girl, Mitake

Do some googling on "Talc and cancer" and its truly alarming, and very true. It really shouldn't be sold as a baby product! :no

I can't even use Johnson's products on myself! Used the sensitive moisturiser and had to wash it off after 10 mns as my face started burning!

Even the baby bath they give in the hospital gave DS pimples. Started using the Curash one and it was fine, even if it is a noxious blue colour.

Guess she just freaked me out cause of the way she approached me, creepy I thought.
Maybe subconciously I've never used it because of her comment

I won't be using J&J products on my baby. As alot of other psters have said, warm water and a face washer is sufficient on your baby. I mean, what do they actually do to get dirty anyway?
I will only be using Gaia products on my baby. You can get them from woolies and coles and health food stores. They aren't overly priced, not tested on animals, Australian owned and made and made from organic products.
The lady that started this company had a bub with bad skin and made her own products for him.
    They are wonderful.
