Pornography and the treatment of women

This article that I got from another thread, had me feeling sick and sad for men and women alike.

I agree with the author - it's time we took this stuff seriously.

All to often when someone says Pornography or stripping are not OK they are painted as being a prude, or being jelous and insecure.

This article helped me to highlight the reasons I find it sad, sick, offensive and wrong.

Yes I found the article from another thread, and thought I'd read it. I allways felt that porn was damaging, however everything in that article rings true for me, and it makes sense to me that women find it so hard sometimes and that there's so much violence and ill treatment of women. Obviously porn is only one reason, however the porn industry is so big it's any wonder.

I will certainly be giving it to my daughter and son to read when I think they are old enough.

That's the one I mentioned in my thread, I think. I love Robert Jensen's work. Its phenomenally powerful, and very comprehensive and easy-to-read. The article lays out, so clearly, why pornography is so incredibly dangerous, doesn't it.

We don't have porn in our home. My husband, my brother, my father do not consider pornography to be acceptable. My mother, my SIL and I are not naive, we are not prudes - we just find this kind of exploitation to be unacceptable. *deep breath in* It's hard to say that.

Miss Kitty- it was never in my house growing up. I to this day have never seen it in my parents house. Thank goodness, I think that has been a blessing, as my father allways treated women with respect. As a result my self confidence is now pretty good.

It's not allowed in my house either, my DH does not have it in the house or on the computer and his friends know not to send pron videos via text message to him.

All of his friends who watch a lot of porn seem to not treat the women in their lives very well.

I can't stand it and I can't stand people being passive about it's pervasiveness into modern day life. It is just every where and so easily available and seems to be the norm.
