Coeliac = gluten intolerance, anyone?

Hi there, just looking for others to chat with who may be experiencing Coeliac disease in their lives, be it themselves, their partner, children, or extended family. My youngest son, who is also autistic is Coeliac, and I am fast running out of ideas of what to feed him, as he extremely fussy based on sensory dysfunctions etc.

Ooh! Good luck with that! Sounds like a tough one!! My MIL has Coeliacs & DH has a wheat intolerance, so we have been advised to hold off on the wheat/gluten for DD at least for the time being & then introduce it slowly. It's a bit of a pain having to check labels on everything, although she's not much into solids at the moment & almost everything I give her is homemade.

How old is your little boy? Does he like bread? I had a fantastic recipe for gluten free pumpkin bread that I made for my MIL once. If you think he'd like that, I could have a dig around for it. Is there a particular food or type of food he really likes?

Hi!
My husband, DD and I are all wheat and gluten intolerant. We've never been tested for coeliac before (although we should have!) but we've been told that we cant be tested now. Apparently because we've been off wheat and gluten for so long the test wouldnt work properly.

Anyway, I find there are a few good coeliac recipies to be found on the net. If you google it you'll bring up heaps of sites.

Also try health food shops and some supermarkets for wheat and gluten free products.
To be honest we eat 'normal' food. What I mean is that I substitute recipies with our wheat and gluten free products. The only thing I cant seem to do (and miss terribly!) is puff pastry!
I find the Basco Multi purpose mix to be the easiest to subsitute for flour in recipies. Its good for sweet or savoury.

Our biggest dilemma is his fussiness through the autism, now being coeliac, his diet consists of about 10 things, and that's it, all of which have to home made to get it 'right' lol.

Glad to see there are others here with coeliac, will be good to build a support base for the tricky times
