Default DNA testing at birth - your thoughts?

The DNA Daddy Debate, has me wondering what YOU think about testing all babies at birth... checking their DNA and matching it up to their supposed parents.

How would you feel about this happening to you?
Is this different to how you feel about it happening on the whole?
Do you think it would solve problems, or create more?
    Etc Etc Etc...

I'll give my opinions later in the thread (don't want to hijack my OP and have everyone commenting on what I said just yet).

    I don't like the idea.

Poor baby who has to have a needle as a newborn because nobody believes the parents are the parents..

If it happened to me, or my baby was supposed to have to do that I would feel downright offended.

Anyway, I would know for absolute certainty who the mother of my baby is.

Heck, after pushing it out of.. there.. I KNOW it belongs to me.

And I also know 110% who the father is.

Perhaps there could be a reason for having it done.. But making it routine would just be awful.

i would allow it for my girls..i know who their dad is and have nothing to hide, and i think it could solve a lot of problems for people i knwo personally who have gotten them in to a situation of not knowing.

    BUT....
there are a lot of things that i wonder about.
what would they do with the results ? i am happy for them to be kept on a police file but dont know if i trust their DNA in the hands of others...what if they do 'stuff' with it (i don't know what kind of 'stuff'...its just something i think about).

and also while i am happy to have it done for my children i would hate for anyone to be forced into it just for routine.

i think it should be a choice and a simpler one with out all the paper work for those who want it...do you want bub to have the vit K ? hep B ? DNA ?....that would be good IMO

I think it's a huge invasion of privacy.

I wouldn't have had a problem with it myself as I'd only had one sexual partner in 5 yrs, yeah pretty sure DS is his lol but I think it would be a waste of money and time and resources. If someone is suspicious, by all means go for it, but for others the birth of a baby is a beautiful time full of love, not suspicion.

I think its great and could save alot of heartache for some children.

I'd hope it wouldn't be a needle and just the saliva test though.

I think perhaps it should be offered free with the Vit K, Hep B etc.

But not compulsory, DH and I were married and in a monogomus relationship when DS was concieved, not much point in testing really.

I don't like the idea of putting my child through a blood test.

I would also be more worried about my childs DNA being put into a Database.
    No thanks

I think that it is a great idea If you have nothing to hide why would you mind? I found out that my father was not my father when i was 19 years old and he only found out then to. This was so hard for me and him to take in and if this back in the 80s yeah he might not have stuck around but I tell you what it would have stopped alot of heart ache for me and him.

I think it should be offered at birth just like the vit K and hep B shots.

So at least the parents who are unsure of paternity have the option to find out as soon as possible.

But I definately dont think it should be something thats compulsory or anything,Theres plenty of people out there who are completely monogamous so theres no doubt over paternity.

And I think it could cause alot of problems esp with meddling nasty inlaws etc if they heard you were getting the testing

"see i knew it wasnt his!" etc
