    Default Medication for 'Panic disorder'

    Hi ...

It's been 4 weeks since my first major panic attack and when i thought things were improving BANG, along came another one.... EVERY DAY i feel anxious, short of breath, heavy in the chest, just plain horrible... As if I'm loosing the plot.... I have been very pro-active about researching anxiety/panic disorders and i have started to see a psychologist. My doctor feels that i should be commencing a anti-depressant/anxiety medication to compliment the therapy... I understand why he feel this way because i cant keep going on like this... I haven't been able to return to work and I'm scared that if i continue to be like this i will be useless for my kids.....

I just wanted to know if anyone here takes AD's for a panic disorder and if so which one....
    How do you find them?
    Any suggestions? ADVICE?

    Thank's in advance....

df has really bad anxity attacks and has suffered for over 10 years. He has only recently been put on tablets. They are just like valium and make him relax. They work fanatastic, only downside is it makes you really drowsy. I feel it really helps him. He neevr has to fear getting them cause he knows that he can control them

I can not take valium... For some reason it doesn't sit well with me anymore. I have serapax for calming me down and i find i need 1/2 everyday (7.5mg) i am aware that these can become addictive so i am very wary and mindful that this can not be a long term solution as they are not a long term drug to use... The body can also become resistent to them...
I have heard so many stories about the different 'drugs' out there such as Aropax and Zoloft... I know some have had a terrible time with them, but some have also sworn by them....
All i know is that i am going to the doctors tomorrow to discuss further treatment and make a desicion based on the info he gives me.
He has recommended Aropax but i am unsure about the issues with the apparent 'weight gain' with them and the horrible side effects some have experienced. As some fully understand, the physical side effects from anxiety/panic disorders are almost debilitating, i'm just hoping that something can help me.... Soon...

Post traumatic Stress Disorder that included panic disorders from flash backs. I couldnt drive the car was paralysed mentally..

it cleared my thinking, i didnt feel everything so strongly anymore.

after about a year i didnt want to be on it anymore and just stopped taking it - stupid me and had some weird side affects from not weaning off.

my husband is currently just started on it for anxiety disorder .. he cant breathe at times with fear and doesnt sleep he had a mental breakdown.

last three days he has been so hyperfocussed but actually happy.

now hopefully he will feel like working again

I was diagnosed with postnatal anxiety/panic disorder a couple of days ago. Was experiencing the exact same symptoms as you. My GP but me on Zoloft, have been on them for 4 days now,and I have not felt anxious at all in the last day or so. I swear by them. But will be complimenting them with visits to the psychologist to beat this horrible condition! Good luck! xx

P.s Lexapro didn't agree with me, I freaked out after taking my first dose. But Zoloft has been really good, a big stepping stone back to mental health
