Smile Any sunshine coast Qld FIFO wives out there?

Hi, I live on the sunshine coast in Qld. My partner flies to Karratha 3 and 1 roster and has done so for about a year now. We are used to it and have our routine down now so its not so bad now. I have a 6 year old boy and 20 mth girl. They are ok with it too. My only problem is missing out on things that I would normally get to do like going out with the girls or just something as simple as going to a friends tupperware party at night!!! I don't have family to help out so anything I do I have take kids with me and night time stuff is just out of the question. So if there are any others in the same boat I would love to hear from you!!

Hi there, I am a newbie to bubhub...I live on the gold coast but thought I would reply anyway. My partner also works in Karratha on a 4 on 1 off roster. We have only been doing it for 3 months and have questioned our decision many times already. I guess it does get a little easier each time though. It must be hard not having family to help out, I have my mum and 2 sisters here which help out as much as they can, but they also have their own lives to live.
Well be nice to have someone to chat to who is in a similar situation to me, I didn't even know this forum existed until a friend told me about it, I can see my self spending many lonely nights on here,lol...

    Hi!!

Don't forget to pop on up to the Sunshine Coast section! My son is the same age as your youngest!

My DH doesn't do FIFO, but used to work away a bit & may be working OS next year for a good long while (he caddies, so depends if his pro makes the tour or not!)

hello! Well my hat goes off to you for surviving a 4 and 1!!! My dp started doing 2 and 1 then he got promoted and it changed to a 3 and 1. No way could we do a 4. We have agreed that 3 is the limit. its just too long in between for the kids, (and us!!)they cope alright now but once he had to do a 6 and it was murder, so we agreed that 3 from now on is the longest he will do. It takes a long while to get used to it but if you communicate with each other very regular you will be fine. I actually think at the moment we have been getting on better than we ever have. Because you a limited inthe time you spend together you don't take it for granted! Well anytime you want to chat let me know!

    hi,
i live on the sunshine coast to we moved here a year ago and hubby has been doing fifo to karratha since then before that we actually lived in Karratha both my kids were born there. He has been doing 5 and 1 then finished the contract and planned to have time off but was called back and is doing 8 weeks away getting home a couple of days before xmas. I don't have family nearby either they are all in W.A. so i am in the same boat. It gets easier to deal with but yes it sucks but the time he gets with the kids and me when he is home is great I have 2 daughters who are 6 in may and 4 in march. You are more than welcome to PM me and chat would love to know where you live. I have made a few friends through my daughters school now which is good but still tough at times it helps if your kids behave while he is away

I just stumbled across this site and thought I'd join.
We live on the Sunshine Coast and my hubby works in WA doing 2 and 1. We did 4 and 1 for a long time so find 2 and 1 really easy. I definatley found the first 6 months or the hardest.
For now this works really well for us. Some days you get down about it but I try to always look at the positives of what we are doing. I have 4 children and I must say they are for the most part fine with it. But I do sell it to them very positively if they get down about it.
Anyway it is nice to know there are others in the same situation.
