    Default Help! Anyone using Donnalix?

My 11 and a half week old has been using Donnalix for the past 4 or so weeks, but as he is also on Zantax (with reflux) it's hard to know exactly what is working and what isn't.

We have had a really fantastic last week so for the last two days I took him off the Donnalix and he has reverted to being terrible in the afternoons and evenings. Could this be a coincidence? I hate giving him so much medication without 100% certainty that it's helping him.

Any advice would be most appreciated. When could I expect him to come off both the Donnalix and Zantac?

    Default My Suggestion....

    Hi There,

I've never heard of Donnalix. What is it for?

My son is using Zantac and has been since three months of age...

If i could make a suggestion:

Take him off one med. and if the problems flare up...then you know that he needs that med. If the problems don't flare up then he doesn't need it. Try this with both meds.

We were always told that when u start something new with bubs, you always give it time to work WITHOUT any other changes. So for solids...you give it 3 to 4 days....with Zantac i know it takes 2 weeks to work. So we started Zantac and did NOTHING else new for 2 weeks. My Ds's problems dissappeared and it could only be due to us giving him zantac as that was the only thing we changed.

    I hope that made sense.

Thanks Mrs Little - Donnalix is an over the counter medication for Colic. Our paed put him on both that and Zantac, so perhaps I should just persist with both until we see him again.

He's not been an easy little baby unfortunately, with his reflux and constant crying - I just want him to be happy!

    Thanks for your advice

Hi My son is now two but we had all the problems in the world with colic we had him to every doctor childrens hospital everywhere until a doctor said it is colic just a bad case he would be screaming all day and luckilly he would sleep at night any how at six months it just dissapeered thank goodness. He was on doonalix and zantac as well zantac for him I don't think did anything the best thing was donnalix and also baby gavvascon but the problem with baby gavascon was that it thickened up the milk in the bottle to much and he would'nt take it straight so there raises another issue anyhow believe me it does get better and I would stick to donnalix It was great and I guess it depends on your child. Hope this helps also my boy was on donnalix for 3 months or so everyday and he's fine

Thanks heaps bayandme - I have tried seperate stints of taking him off the Zantac (he reverted to being terrible) and just recently the Donnalix (also terrible).

I think the answer is obvious - keep him on both for now! Really appreciate your advice x

I know this thread is really old but have been researching Donnalix and thought I would leave a message for future mums looking here.

Donnalix is made from Belladonna, a herb from the deadly nightshade family. It's active ingredient is an alkaline (which explains why it can help with acid reflux) and is often used as a sedative by alternative therapists. It can be used to dilate pupils in eye tests and is one of the "ingredients" used in some pregnancy medications and tests.

However.... Belladonna taken in the wrong dose can be highly toxic and is widely associated with bad "reactions".

Teens have been known to use Belladonna as a cheap drug and suffered from extreme reactions when they overdo it.

Donnalix of course, has been tested and tested and deemed safe for infants - but if your baby doesn't seem to improve or gets worse, see your doctor before continuing - he may have a reaction to it.
Working at home with my little man, perfect!
