Default Mirena IUD or Tubes Tied??

Hi everyone. I have 3 beautiful children and definately have no time spare in the day (or my brain) for any more bubs. So, long term contraception now - I have a bit of a control issue and want to feel 100% sure that no accidents can happen as that would not be good. Has anyone had experience with Mirena? Or with getting their tubes tied? Any feedback would be glady appreciated. Thanks!

Heya, I had a Mirena put in 3 months ago, not long after the birth of our second child, and have no complaints. My understanding is that it is statistically more effective than the pill and usually offers less side effects. My husband and I have discussed that at teh end of the 5 year period of the Mirena that he will get a vasectomy if we are still in agreement about no more children. I don't see the point in continuing with contraceptives, if we are absolutely sure we don't want any more children, when a more permanent option is possible.

Sorry, feel like I've waffled a bit but in short, mirena good!

Mirena for me has had its ups and downs. Has been very effective but have had some bad side effects.
I've had it in for just over 2 years and get it out on monday.
Some of the side effects i experienced have been depression, really bad mood swings, constant crying for no reason, very irritable, pains, severe headaches. I wont go on.
I have also read it lots of forums about the same side effects so its not just me.
Another friend had mirena inserted (she is a lot older than i am) and she had heavy bleeding for 2 weeks straight, had it removed after 1 month.

But each to there own and there is no harm in trying it. It is 100% effective in my eyes, just dont like the side effects. You might just need to get it put in and see what side effects you have and if bad get it removed.

I am in the same dilemma as you. I am considering tubes tied but wanted something for a year or two just to be sure.

Was recommended Mirena by the nurse (who did papsmear) but i am currently using the Nuvaring.

I swayed against the mirena as i am very sensitive to the hormones in pills (mood swings, anxiety, nausea etc) and find that the nuvaring doesn't give me any side effects so i am sticking with it.

hi i recenly had the essure procedure done, its permanent and similer to getting tubes tied , but it only takes 15 min, no operation (done through the cervix with only a local). the only issue is i have to wait 3 months to make sure the little spring things they put in my tubes has completly closed them up. i would reccomend it to anyone who is SURE they wont permanent contraception
