Default Up all night with sick little boy

My ds 6 fell asleep in the car on the way home last night and as we pulled up he woke with a stabbing earache.
He has had a little runny nose for the last 2 days but nothing else and then all of a sudden he has this earache.

He was sleeping on and off for 10-30 minutes all night so I ended up ring the maternal child help line and was told to take him to the hospital as panadol and warm compress had done nothing at all to ease it.

Went to hospital and was told to do the same and to come back in the morning at 10am when there is a dr there to have a look.

The poor little thing has puffy tired eyes as he has had no real sleep as have I. He's never really been sick (the odd cold) and has never been on antibiotics for anything.

    Any ideas would be appreciated
(I was thinking an ear infection) but the nurse didn't really do much said couldn't see in his ear and said he had a temperature (which I aready knew)

I'm going crazy just sitting here while i cant do anything to stop it.

It sounds like it might be an ear infection, poor little guy.
I sympathise - I've been up all night with a feverish one year old and haven't had any sleep either
Hope they both feel better soon.
