Default Am I going to be a bad Mum???

    Hi,

I need somebody to help me out and give me their honest opinions.

I am just over 5 weeks pregnant with my first baby. Both my partner and I both planned this baby and were so excited to be trying for one. But, now that I am actually pregnant I am not really liking it.

I know that sounds silly but I really don't like feeling sick, not knowing what is going to happen, waiting for our lives to change dramatically etc etc. I am terrified.

Is this normal - all the books say that your hormones go crazy and that you get very weepy, but I don't know if what I am feeling is hormones or if it is something more.

I have spoken to may partner about this and he is very supportive and says all the right things, but I still feel like a bit of a failure. All our close family that know of the pregnancy are soooooo excited and I feel like I am a bit of a let down as I am not that excited at all, just wishing I could snap my fingers and have the baby born.

Does it mean that I am going to be a **** parent if I don't like being pregnant?

Let me know what you think

I think it's the fact that your life is going change in such a dramatic way and you have just surrendered control. Regardless of how you prepare, how much you read it is still unchartered territory and in the early weeks your hormones are out of control.

For me personally I hate being pregnant and have terrible pregnancies but I just focus on what was to come and saw being pregnant as a small price to pay for the miracle that emerged at the end of it.

If you continue to feel this way please speak to your midwives about it. There is help available.

    Hi Dixieb!

Don't worry, I've been feeling the same over the last couple of days.

I've been up and down like a rollercoaster! One minute I feel elated, the next I think, what have I done!

I think it's completely normal to feel like this because as you said, our hormones are all over the place

My other half is already calling me the Mad Hormonal Woman and I'm only 4 weeks pregnant!!

Please don't think you're alone though, cus you're not.

I hated everyone of my pregnancies but DO NOT class myself as a bad mum now, actually i think i am doing a pretty good job. I have 4 kids now and if it wasn't for actually being pregnant, i would have stacks more.
Some peoples bodies just dont cope well with the big influx of crazy womans hormones, which is me to a T. I am so cranky, mean, nasty, sick, hot, fat, annoyed etc etc when i am pregnant, but when bub arrives its like a cloud has cleared and everything is OK again.
Hopefully this is just a short cycle in yr pregnancy so you get to enjoy every moment of the life you are growing inside you. Some woman just get down at the beginning when all the hormones flood the body, then again right at the end when the hormones are preparing for birth.
Good Luck, i am sure you will be fine. As a matter of a fact i KNOW you will because simply starting this post shows what a caring person you already are.

    Hi dixieb

I am onto #3 and this pg was unplanned. I am overweight, had m/s for 12wks (vomited any time I ate before 4pm) then migranes for 7wks (which still had me feeling nauseous) and only in the last few weeks I have just started feeling ok about this pg.

I am surrounded by SUPER excited happy ppl, and when 2 DD's and DH found out it was a boy they were over the moon. I WAS HORRIFIED, I don't know how to 'do' boys I have DD's and it all seemed too new and overwhelming.

I guess what I'm getting at is, usually, it will all come out in the wash, bub arrives, happy hormones kick in and you get too tired to waste energy worrying or feeling bad.

IF however depression is kicking in, get onto it asap, the last thing you need is to be overridden with negative thoughts, getting perspective help us to see that we are all pretty much the same (except for the really really cr*p mums of course! jk)

    Take care
    Sarah

Thank you all for your kind thoughts and honest opinions.
It is reassuring to know that there are others out there who understand where I am coming from.
I will be making my first OB appointment soon - I will see what she is like and then mention any concerns to her.
    Thanks again!
