Default How long will this gastro last?

My DD has been suffering from a gastro infection for 7 days now. She started by throwing up every half hour for one night and so we took her to the doctors and he just said to give her plenty of fluids and bland foods. Once she stopped throwing up by day two, I reintroduced some more of her normal foods - including milk . Since then, she has thrown up once a day, sometimes twice. She is very wingy and clingy and really just isn't herself.

I don't want to take her back to the doctors unless there is something more wrong with her, but I was just wondering if this could still be the gastro infection. She has never been sick before, so I really don't have a clue what to do.

How long do these things usually last??
Should I give her some soy milk instead of cows?
Could she be feeling queezy? and if so, what can I give her to help relieve it?

She isn't sleeping so well either at the moment. Sorry about all these questions, but as you can see I am desperate for any advice. I just want things to go back to normal.

if she is throwing up with milk dilute it to half strenght then gradually make it full strength over a few days.thast what the dr told me to do with DS. gastro can take about 2 weeks to leave completly. i was told. as you could be stuck on the loo with the runs for 10 days vomiting can last for a few days too.
to make sure she is getting enough fluids if her vomting gets worse buy some oral rehydration salts you can get them over the counter for about $8 at any chemist and you just mix them in with cooled boiled water it will help stop dhydration.
when you have gastro the tummy lining gets a bit damaged and it can take a few days to get back to normal soy milk can be worth a try if bubs is 12 months and over.
if she keeps vomiting i would take her to the doctors coz its how i found out ym DS was lactose intolerant.

Aprilsmum, you poor thing. My daughter came down with this last friday night and we took her to the hospital and they gave her a stemitil suppository which slowed the vomiting down but didn't stop it. A week later she is now finally eating a little better (still a bit off her milk) but still has the runs. On monday morning, we found out that she also has a bad case of tonisillitis and is now on antibiotics for this aswell. I got a stool sample sent of yesterday just to make sure it is nothing more.

The hospital told us to give her lots of ice blocks, watered down softdrink, cordial, watered down juice etc. Your daughter is only 1 year old (mine is 2) so it could be a little bit more difficult to give your daughter these types of drinks.

Me and my hubby came down with this bug on Sunday night and were both admitted to hospital on monday morning. Hubby came home tuesday and me on Wednesday. We are still feeling out of sorts and generally not well.

I would be taking her back to the doctors, even if its just for a checkup as children this age can dehydrate sooooo quickly and in my thinking , a child still vomiting a week later may need something to help get them over it.

    Hope things improve soon

    Janet.
