Default Renting steam cleaners from Coles, help!!!

Has anyone rented a steam cleaner from Coles/Woolies before? I need to clean my carpets and especially my lounge suite and after calling several reputable places was quoted $250 for two rooms (lounge and living) and my suite, i simply CANNOT afford that Renting the steamer costs $39.90 for 24 hours and then an extra $20 for the defoamer and upholstery cleaner i was told at Coles yesterday.

So my question is have you used one and are they easy to use?

My Mum has helped me move out of a rental before, and she rented one from Safeway... and let me tell you, if my Mum can work it out, it can't be too complicated!

We always hire the red Rug Doctor one - we get it from the hardware chain here...

I have heard that the blue Britex ones aren't as good as the Rug Doctor ones.

my inlaws always hire them and use them on our carpet (one one room - granny flat).
they did it, then 3 days later i got a professional in (only $66) and you could see the difference where he had done and where he hadn't.... he also said (and he wasn't just drumming up business) that the ones from woollies and coles aren't worth the money.... HTH

Thanks for the info guys. Im in NSW Jag, gee you got a good deal for all that space, well done! We arent actually moving out of the house, but i would never DIY leaving a property anyway It's just the place looks so grubby from all the milk and coffee stains and the couch is even worse so i just want it done for us so the house no longer looks like an OH&S issue Im enjoying spring cleaning, but there's not much point if the furniture looks like a herd of animals have been eating and sleeping off it lol.

DH has now booked Magna-Dry to do it for me, i don't think we can really part with that kind of money but he says he will foot the bill so i don't make a mess of the place or hurt myself Thanks Steve xxx

I've just bought a Vax carpet washing machine with upholstery attachments for $250 from retrovision and it's great. It sucks up so much muck and leaves the carpets damp, but not soaking. I figured it would come in handy over the next couple of years.

We used to use the DIY steam cleaner on the old carpet at my dad's.

It really did make a difference.

Possibly not as good a job as the professionals, but it was certainly an improvement!

Every year I rent out the Blu Britex machine from Coles... I wouldn't say it is as good as a professionals but I can see and SMELL the difference!

I even did a walk-on-with-bare-feet test and I could feel that it was much cleaner. Plus all the gunk you collect in the machine shows you that it does work.

    I would recommend it!

    Bump.
I'm thinking about doing my lounges. Anyone got more feedback on DIY upholstery cleaning machines?
