    Default Toddlers and newborns!

During my pregnancy, I spent a lot of time talking to my son about how exciting it would be to have a baby sister etc, etc... He was excited telling me how he would 'help' and he was really looking forward to her birth

Now that the baby is here... his behaviour is just unbearable!!!
He isn't being nasty to his little sister (anymore), but he is acting really intolerably in general.

Constant tantrums over the smallest things... usually we can talk things over with him and come up with a solution or outcome that keeps everyone happy... but he won't talk to us... just gets really angry and hits things ...and himself ...and us.
I can only describe him as an emotional wreck?! The slightest thing upsets him. I give him the wrong colour cup... I ask him a simple question...?!

He is a fairly sensitive child... bit this is just crazy!

Has any one else had these issues? Is it 'normal' behaviour after the arrival of a new sibling?
Does it end sometimes soon?!(please God, tell me it does!!)

i would think it is normal. most parents talk to a toddler about the new baby and how good things will be with a baby. then the baby comes along and it is nice...but it stays...and it is noisy and smelly and mummy is always with the baby! he might feel a little put out, unfortunately apart from making sure you spend some quality time with just him whenever you can, you just have to wait it out.

Poor you, it's not a easy time for us or them. At least we can have some sort of understanding! It's a very difficult transition for them. My DD was just 2 when I had my 2nd she has been fine with him and us. But sharing with other kids. This is our biggest change. I think every time something happens we have to get down to them and explain why things are not OK this way. and reassure them. For me I tend to say I am busy right now but you do some colouring and then I will spend some time with you. Or you make mummy upset when you do that, lets think of something to make mummy happy. It does work it takes time and patience but it's slowly working for us.

Any chance for you to have alone time with him? I mean total alone time? I have found this helps my DD.
