Changing from breast to bottle..

My boy is 4 weeks ive decided to change to bottle feeding as i feel im not supplying him enough milk. ive given him 2 bottles of S26 and he has vomitted them both up, but had a 4 hour nice settled sleep inbetween which was lovely!! ( has only been sleeping hourly at the most).
Does he not like S26 or is this normal when they change to bottle??

I might not be the best to answer, but i know that you need to give bubs tummy a chance to expand. BF babies have smaller tummies to FF babies. Bub could have chucked cause he had tooooooo much in his belly. In time he will be able to keep what the tin suggests him to have down if you know what i mean.

Also, let him have a whole tin of s26 to get him use to it. if by the end of the tin he is still chucking, maybe then look at changing. He needs a chance to settle with it.

When u say he vomited it up how much is he bringing up? At first I thought DD was vomiting up her entire feed, then someone told me to pour out a bottle of formula (or any liquid realy) onto a tea towel and compare the 2 messes. It was then i realised she was actually keeping a fair amount down IYKWIM.

It will take a while for his tummy to adjust give it time before changing formulas. I think he must be keeing some down if he is having a nice long sleep (dont u love it when they have a 4 hour sleep, BLISS

)

When my daughter first had bottles I didnt realise she needed to be burped more during her feeds that with breastfeeding. If I didnt burp her she "vomited" but in reality it was a big burp that happened to bring milk with it LOL

Perhaps it has something to do with the flow speed of the bottle/type of bottle? Also burping throughout the feed might help.

my ds "threw up" constantly when i first switched i constantly had a cloth nappy with me to wipe up any spills but my health nurse told me that it looks like a lot that is coming up but in actual fact it's next to nothing compared to whats in the tummy - when it hits the stomach it mixes with the acids and expands so what is brought up is only a little mixed with some stomach fluid - burp often when bottle feeding as this allows it to settle and give them the filled feeling and you'll find ds will leave a little in the bottle each time and slowly reach the full amount as the stomach gets use to the extra fluid coming at each feed - if you are concerned that things aren't changing go see the doc/health nurse

and congrats on making the decision to change - i know it couldn't have been easy - it wasn't for me - but definately the best thing i ever did
