Default Bill Clinton vs Soft Drinks

In case you aren't aware of this, have a look at this article.

Bill Clinton is banning soft drinks, as well as other sugary drinks, from school across the US. My fiance and I think it's a great idea, especially when you consider the fact that

Cutting out a high-calorie soft drink a day could mean "a child will weigh 20 pounds [about nine kilograms] less" when he or she graduates from high school, Mr. Clinton said. Pulling high-calorie pop from schools could "add years and years and years to the lives of a very large number of young people. . . . This is a big deal," the former president said.
    What are your thoughts?

I think its a marvoulous idea. and bloody about time!

For my experience, going to school in the states, there was ALWAYS soda there, all the vending machines, it was ridiculus! still is.. so good on Bill Clinton! (i always liked him anyway, as a politician..not a husband type)

I thought it was "the Governator" that started that?

I dont like softdrinks in primary schools, but high schools are ok. Banning juice is just silly though

    Default It's about time!

    Good on him, I reckon

My kid's school doesn't sell soft-drink at all which I think is great. The unhealthiest thing on their menu is a toasted sandwich

I think its really great. In primary school the canteen didn't sell cool drink but in high school year 11 and 12 they did. I dont think they should sell it in either.
Its not at all good for kids and generations are putting on more and more weight. They should encourage kids to eat healthy, like sandwiches, fruit, musli bars, yoghurt, juice, water etc. Kids get enough junk elsewhere as it is.

    Its about time IMO.

The Queensland governtment has banded all soft drinks from public schools and any other drinks they sell have to have less than 4g/100 of sugar. They have also told teachers that kids are no longer allowed to bring in cakes for their birthdays and they are not allowed to give lollies as rewards. Sounds very nobel on the surface, but its just education qld trying to cover its **** against future law suits.

Bet the kids will hate it lol.... but i think it should have been done a long time ago!!

I remember every day in high school a large group of the boys in my year had a buddy coke (the 600ml ones) and an iced donut for reccess, then at lunch would have another buddy coke and a sausage roll and a meat pie. EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM, AND, EVERYDAY!!!! I thought it was yuuuuuuuck! I have heard from ym younger sister that our school now has a half hearted "healthy canteen" but only at certain times... e.g No lollies/cakes/sweets before First class (canteen opens at about 8:25am till 9am when first classes begins), and no softdrinks and recess. Lol Hmm big changes

I say good work and every school should change to a proper "healthy canteen"

    It's a great idea!

My daughters school has banned all soft drinks. They don't sell them, and they are not allowed to bring them from home.

The canteen sells freshly squeezed juice, milk and water only. They don't sell lollies of any kind. They do sell ice blocks, but only at lunch time.

I think lollies and soft drinks should be banned at all schools

I completely agree with the ban on all junk foods... I think it could lead the way in improving diets in children. There are simply too many overweight children out there!

I never went to a school that sold soft drinks. For my schooling I was either at a school that was too small for a canteen or an area school, R-12.
I never missed soft drinks at school and actually don't really drink them now unless I'm out, so perhaps it would be encouraging kids to drink it if it was always available.
