Default Use of nexium for relfux

    Hi all,
Jill is 13 wks and has battled with reflux almost since birth (no vomitting - just burning). The Dr has had her on Nexium. Just wondering whether anyone else is aware of its use in infants or any side effects.

Gosh I know it is used in adults - great for hangovers! Haven't heard of it being used for bubs with reflux. Tayla has reflux too and our paediatrician prescribed Zoton which needs to be specially made up by a pharmacist as it isn't available from behind the counter ready made. I know that people also use mylanta and zantac but not nexium. But it should work the same as all the others - see what your local pharmacist has to say.

Nexium is a proton-pump inhibitor, similar to Losec and Acimax (generic), which reduce the amount of acid in the stomach. My bub is on 10mg of Losec per day and it is working fantastically. I also take it for reflux and I find it much more effective than Zoloft (Ranitidine). It also seems to last longer.

    Default Nexium ok

I spoke with my partner who is a pharmacist and he said that the ingredients in nexium are the same as what we give our bub (zoton)!

So, all works the same as a reflux treatment!

nexium does NOT contain the same ingredients as zoton. they are both proton pump inhibitors (PPI), meaning that they significantly reduce the amount of acid produced by the stomach.

nexium contains the ingredient esomeprazole & zoton contains the ingredient lansoprazole. different PPI's work for different people in different ways.
