Default is it ok for a 15 m old to use an electric toothbrush (not turned on!)

    hi,

I am having trouble getting my DD's teeth brushed.

I have tried doing mine in front of her and she will stick hers in her mouth but thats it. She will brush MY teeth with my toothbrush but will only brush her own teeth with my toothbrush too! yuk!

I have an electric toothbrush so I bought a kiddie one for her but don't turn it on. Its still not working though. She refuses it in her mouth and will only suck on my toothbrush. I have even tried switching heads on mine but she knows I've swapped them!

I'm having a little success with her kiddie electric brush not turned on. I'll make her laugh then stick it in. very ocassionally she'll let me brush everything.

Is it ok to use a kids toothbrush at her age?

I haven't started using toothpaste yet because she can't spit it out. is it ok to use anyway? that might get her into it.

I used an electric toothbrush on my dd when she was 15 mths, I was determined that my dd was not going to have rotting teeth.

I had rotting teeth when I was 5, not only was it yuck, I had to have teeth surgically removed later because I had teeth removed I then had to have braces for 5 years because my teeth were so crooked due to having teeth removed too early - so brush away I say!

Electric toothbrush minus the electric makes just a toothbrush with a small head.

I used to let my DS use it.

It worked. He likes using my toothbrush and that was fine.

We make silly noises like Aaaaaaahhhh!!! And open your mouth and Neeeeeeee!! While you cheesy grin. Works for me.

If you do the noise and the face, kids will generally try to copy.

Laugh and smile and compliment your little one on being so big and letting Mummy have a turn.
    Then offer her a turn.

    yeh!!! great ...makes cleaning easier!!
My kiddies everynow and then (if they are good) get a special battery operated kiddie toothbrush...as long as it doesn't scare them - they shove it in their mouth and it does most of the cleaning for them!

I had a breakthrough with teeth cleaning success when I introduced the tiniest scrape of Macleans Milk teeth toothpaste at around 15 months. He still was not keen on me brushing but at least he chewed on the toothbrush quite a bit longer. It's only been in the last few weeks (now 21 months) that he has started letting me brush, volunteering an open mouth. Funnily enough this followed a 3 day period where we decided to force his mouth open to brush while firmly holding his arms. He detested it and carries on, but it only took 3 days and he gave in.
