    Default hernia operation

my brother is going to hospital on tuesday for a hernia operation, i'm not sure what it involves, so could some body please tell me?
i'd like to organise help for him, because he has a disabled partner and a 9month old son, and she can't look after their son on her own, nor can she look after herself, but i don't think my brother will be able to look after either of them after the operation.
so does any body know if in adelaide some where there is home care for people like this?
or if in a different state you have something similar i might have in SA?

Depends entirely on what sort of hernia, where it is, and whether the surgery is keyhole or open.

Check out the info on the Hernia Clinic Brisbane website (google it) thwy have info about types of surgry, healing times etc, and after care.

DH is going in for a hernia op very soon . He has ingrual (groin) hernias which is usually keyhole surgery and what they do is put a sheet of webbing across the hole that the hernia is getting through IYKWIM. As far as hospital stay its all a matter of once they open their bowel as to when they can go home. Recovery time is about 6 weeks. That all does depend on the type of hernia and how you brother copes with the surgery too.

my DS was 2 months old when he had his hernia surgery (groin left side), he stayed in hospy overnight (me 2 obviously) and he was given the daytime painstop for pain relief. His stitches had dissolved in about 6 days, and he was back to his normal self. bit hard to know really as he was too little to communicate about the pain factor etc, but i went off his cries.
anyway now im just babbling, but hope this helps, feel free to pm me if u want any more info!
