Anyone used this cream to relieve eczema???

A friend from the UK has told me about a cream she used to use as a child, it's called Deri-Sal (it might have a different name, depending on where you live I guess)and it's actually used for cow's udders so they dont crack from being milked. I'm just wondering if anyone has ever used it on their children's skin and if so did it help or make no difference??? My son suffers rather bad eczema and has loads of allergies. We see an allergist and a dermatologist and neither have mentioned it to me, just give me the normal steriod creams, but I would really love some feedback from other parents before I buy it as it's not cheap and am sick of spending money on things that dont work.

I just want to help my very itchy little boy!!!!

I haven't heard of Deri-sal, but I read an article the other day about a cream called Moo Goo. It is supposed to be based on a cream used for cows udders as well. I haven't tried it, but you may have better luck finding it??

Have you tried bathing him in an oat bath to help the itching??

MooGoo that sounds really nice, I guess that would be the same as the name I was given! Let me know how it goes Korina. I was thinking about getting some this week after my local pet shop told me where I can get it from.

And yes Elliemac we have tried the oat bath, didnt make any difference. We have tried just about everything by now I think, even some stuff given to us by his doctors doesnt work, they can make him really dry. May I ask you where you read that, as I live in North Brisbane too.

The whole process of elimination is so frustrating! Not to mention expensive... but you gotta keep trying til you find something that works..

The MooGoo website is brilliant - explains all about their products as well as providing some hilarious cow pics! You can order online, but there is a stockists section which lists all the health food shops that stock their products ... so you don't have to wait for your order if you're impatient like me! Maybe give your local stockist a call though to make sure they have the products you want.

I have got the soothing udder cream (moisturiser) and I got some goats milk soap (smells yummy btw). Have just started using them today. It's only early days, but so far so good. I've been applying the moisturiser every nappy change, and it hasn't made his skin go red and angry yet, so that's encouraging!

Will keep you posted !!!

btw, I got myself one of their lip balms, think it's called "Cow Lick" or something?! Anyway, it's pretty yummy!

I didn't realise you were from North Brisbane, I guess your name threw me off

I read about it in the August edition of Bmag, one of the lifestyle 'magazines' which comes with the junk mail. It was only a small paragraph, so the website mentioned above may be more useful than tracking down the article.

BTW - I've figured out dairy makes my dd's eczema break out. I've taken her off cheese and yogurt and she is much better now. I realise it's not the same for everyone, but worth thinking about your little ones diet, depending how old he is of course.

I've just looked at the moogoo website, seems like good stuff, but there's one thing I'm not sure of.. Bubs is allergic to all nuts, so I have no idea if the almond oil would cause a reaction on him! GRRRr maybe I should call the stockist again or maybe I should wait till we see his allergist again next week! Can't make my mind up.....Gee sometimes I wish the other parent was around so I don't have to rack my own brain all the time!!!!!!

Well that will teach me for throwing out my Bmag!!!! My man can actually have dairy, which shocked me! So far we know he is Defiently allergic to all nuts, eggs, and soy. I think he is also allergic to wheat most fruit and veg oh and of course there's animals, dust,dirt, grass can't come into contact with out flaring-up.

It's the food allergies that do my head in! Had a major flare-up after having watermelon the other day, almost took him to hospital, but got it under control. We will just keep doing what we do, try new foods and watch for a reaction.

The poor boy is so tiny for his age due to all of his allergies and eczema. I'm glad that there's other people out there who are going through the same thing as us.......It can be so draining!!!!!!

Yes I was thinkiing the same thing. We have tried moo goo for DD but didn't seem to do much good for her (it smells delish though

)
I guess it is just trial and error with eczema so give it a go see how you find it.

You poor thing! I've only just started on the whole eczema "experience" as my little one is 4 months old, so I can only imagine how stressed you've been!

I think it would probably make sense to wait til you see the allergist again, it will save you some money if the allergist doesn't think it's a good idea... or maybe call MooGoo and ask if they can send you a small sample to try???

My DS was 4 months when his eczema started as well.
Hope you have a good doctor. The dermatology clinic we've been going to out our local hospital since DS was 11mths old kept fobbing me off when ever I mentioned food etc allergies. It wasnt until March this yr that I had enough and told them I want a test done, so they said yes, but gave me the normal line "it probably wont show anything"
We had to wait 3 months at his next appoinment for the results. It came back that he's allergic to most things, but as it was only a blood test, it only showed the groups and not the actual allergies. So of course I asked for more test to be done and all I got back was keep using the creams and come back in 3 months.
Oh yeah I asked if he'd need an epi-pen and they said no!!!
Wasnt happy so called the next day and once again asked for more to be done and was told I'd have to sort it out myself as their waiting list was from 18mths to 2yrs. I'd of thought he'd get put through quicker given the results he got.

Well I got him into see a allergist at a private hospital within 3 weeks(was very lucky as someone had just cancelled b4 I called) and yes he needs an epi-pen and he was shocked when I told him what the other hospital said.

Anyway sorry for going on. I hope you dont have to go through what we are.....It's a very long and draining road!
