Yeah, DH and I had our heart set on a particular name (which was non-gender specific) and it really helped us "connect" (I guess is the word) with the unborn child. It was nice to be able to talk about (and to) Cody. We could then call the nursery "Cody's room" and talked about shopping for "Cody's clothes" etc.

It being our first child, I think it really helped to make the whole process less daunting to assign a little bit of a personality as such to the child.

We found out the gender at 18 weeks so we knew if we had a girl Cody or a boy Cody and when she popped out low and behold she indeed looked like a Cody. Not sure what we would have done if she didn't. There was no back up plan!

DD had her name as soon as I found out at the 20wk scan. I'd found the name a couple of weeks earlier and it was like "yep, thats it". I didn't really say it openly though more just in my head. If anyone asked I told them.

And yes I used to call her that in my head and talk to her using that name all the time. I don't think it's weird, its beautiful

yes i did this with both boys as soon as we knew the sex - i did not like the same names for both - got a 'feeling' about the 'right' name for each.
Give us that grand word "woman" once again, and let's have done with "lady"; one's a term full of fine force, strong, beautiful, and firm, fit for the noblest use of tongue or pen; and one's a word for lackeys. - Ella Wheeler Wilcox

Not by a name as such, we called her "germ" because she made me sick.

Well, we were actually the opposite as in we referred to our DS with a nickname and it's sorta stuck, even now and he's 8 months old! From the very first scan at 7 weeks we called our DS 'Peanut' 'coz that's what he looked like on that scan. So throughout the pg we spoke about Peanut, called him Peanut when we were talking to him in utero (even after the 20 week scan when we knew he was a he and had decided on his name). And as I said, now he's 'out' we still call him Peanut, so I think that nickname is gonna stick for life
There's this boy I know... He kinda stole my heart... And he calls me "Mummy"

I started calling my little boy by his name as soon as i found out he was a boy at 20 weeks pregnant. I think its normal and helped me really bond with him.

Yep DD was named before we even knew for sure she was a girl because I just felt she was.

DS was named from about 27 weeks I think....we found out he was a boy and then spent two months arguing over what to call him otherwise he would've been named earlier.

Not weird at all I think it's pretty common now that so many people find out the sex halfway through.
