I think with seafood (prawns etc) it's better to eat them cooked and served hot.

Does anyone know if you can eat pavalova when you are pregnant? Isn't the egg white in the meringue cooked?

My ob told me only to eat prawns if they are purchased uncooked (raw) and then cooked and served hot.

I caved in last night and had a ham and salad subway...I'm not really panicking or worried about it as my body was screeeeeaming at me for it LOL was so nice to have it after so long of denying myself!
Sometimes I'd buy Vogue instead of dinner. I just felt it fed me more.

I'm sure pavalova would be fine, as you said its cooked...I wouldn't stress about eating it personally.

Oh my goodness! I have just read that long list of forbidden foods! I have eaten practically everything on it during pregnancy (some, e.g. deli meats, salad on almost daily basis). I'm from the UK & their guidelines for pregnancy diet are simply no unpasturised cheese, raw meat/fish & to limit alcohol & caffeine consumption. Is listeria more common in australia due to the warm weather? It would be interesting to find out some statistics as I don't know any English mothers who were advised to go on such restrictive diets.

    Hello

You cant have runny eggs, they need to be cooked all the way through (solid). There is a risk of salmonella in an undercooked egg. I am certainly missing poached eggs, I will be having eggs benedict as soon as I can .

At least its all worth it .

    Default Ham

Is it safe to eat ham from the sealed packs that you buy??
I assumed it was and that its only the meats sitting in the deli counter that are the problem..now im not so sure..

Bressar - My OB said ham straight off the bone from a reputable deli is ok but he said to avoid the pre-packaged meats. If you're using it on a toasted sandwich, it's probably ok.

I have to admit, I'm not the best at keeping to rules of what to avoid . I haven't given up my mayo and I still have feta cheese (pasturised) on my home-made salads. My OB said to just be sensible, eat fresh foods and make sure the fridge is properly chilled. My SIL, who is from a European background, ate soft cheeses, deli meats and oysters throughout her 4 pregnancies!

I don't get the soft cheeses thing, all cheeses in australia have to be pasteurised, the "proper" cheese lovers don't like it being pasteurised as they reckon it destroys the flavour. They are pushing to allow un-pasteurised cheeses into the country, but it hasn't happened yet.
