Default what happens if you leak amniotic fluid???

I was just wondering what happens if you do start to leak fluid at a early stage of pregnancy?

does it replace it's self to protect the bubs? ( might be a stupid question....)

What happens if you loose a lot, i know the doc can stop labour, but does the baby spend the rest of the time with no fluid?

    just curious??

Well the amniotic fluid replaces itself every 3 hrs (i think) but sometimes u can get a tear in the sac which causes the fluid to leak, normally bed rest and lots of scans to insure baby has enough fluid to survive is needed and lots of water, the bub needs the amniotic fluid to grow and survive, normally a small leak will mend itself also.

There are a few different thing that can "Happen".
    It really depends on:
    How far along you are.
    How much you are leaking.
How big the hole in your amniotic sac is.

Sometimes it repairs itself with no further intervention.
If you loose most of your fluid, generally they would induce labour due to a rather high risk of infection.

    Are you leaking??

no, no.. just wondering what would happen....

im at 27 weeks now and i was thinking what would happen as it would be way to early to have bubs....

Just one of those random silly thoughts i have at night.....

if i was i would be stright to the hospital... *smiles*

This is such a good place to ask these tpes of questions because you find out the info first hand sometimes...... in sted of going straight to good old google!!

Am glad that have not sprung a leak!!

I have had two friend who have had amnio leaks.
One at 19 weeks, sad outcome, but one at 29 weeks with a lovely outcome.

I agree that this is a great place to ask Q's..

My DH cousin is going through this at the moment. Her waters broke at 29 weeks and she has been in hospital for the last 2 weeks. They gave her medication to stop the labour which worked and she has been monitored and will be in the hospital until bubs is born. TBH I am not sure how much of her waters have leaked but they check her continuosly for infection and she is doing well. It must have been scary but apparently as long as she and bubs is doing well she could be fine for several more weeks which will be the case.
