    Default Ice Cube Baby Food

I have heard many mums saying that they make baby food and put it in ice cube trays.

What exactly do you make and how? Do you freeze it? What's it like when you thaw it out?

Please can you advise your ideas and recipes and methods etc.....

Anything you would normally freeze just blend it or mash it then put it into the ice cube trays (be sure to put a cover on it though or it will get freezer burn.

Some eg you could put blended/mashed
    • Fruit (all types)
    • Vegetables (all types) Beware of the watery vegies though ie Zucchini, does not taste too good thawed!

Or you could even blend meals like Spaghetti Bolognese, Chicken and Rice etc. The possibilities are endless!

    Hi Bambino

I steam a whole heap of different vegies, potato, sweet potato, carrots, pumpkin, brocolli etc basically the same stuff we eat, then mash it all individually and freeze it in the trays. Then once frozen, I take them out and put them in snaplock bags. This way, bub doesn't have the same old thing every night. Some nights he'll have all the vegies in a bowl, others just the one or two. I only do it this way coz I reckon I'd get bored eating the same thing every night.

They seem fine once reheated. I just zap them in the microwave for about 20secs first, then they're soft enough to mix together, but not hot. Then put back in for 10 secs or so until they're at the right temp. Sometimes I put some formula in with them when reheating to make them less thick.

    Hope this helps!

I don't know what your problem is, but I'm sure it's hard to pronounce

Just a hint when giving babies home made food most will not eat as much food as they would normally from the canned/jar food! The reason behind this is homemade food is more thick etc and commercially prepared tends to be very very watery!

I find the opposite.. my daughter eats much more per meal of home cooked than she will for jars of baby food, she much prefers the home cooked stuff but will push away the jars!

I add couscous to some of my daughters vegies and freeze it all mixed up, I don't use ice trays though, I freeze them in little containers so i just grab out a container the night before and let it thaw in the fridge ready for the next night.

Isobella also lovesss tapioca mixed with pureed apple and pear juice.. she won't eat it warm but straight out of the fridge she loves it and this freezes really well also so you can make up bulk lots
