Default Fact or Fiction - Anyone got any answers to pregnancy urban myths?

    Hi Guys

I've only heard a few so far, i.e. don't use an electric blanket or don't have too hot a shower.

Has anyone got any good (fiction) urban legends (for a laugh) or any interesting ones that are actually true?

Thought that this might be an interesting thread (and maybe educational too!)

Cheers (and have a great day!)

    Kate

I was told with my IVF not to get overheated (eg, exercise, too hot showers, electric blankets) in the early part of the pregnancy as it can stop implantation and dehydration can cause a miscarriage.

    So that's one answer!

When I was pregnant, my SIL told me I couldn't go for a drive into the hills

I thought to myself, what do pregnant women who live in the hills do?

Has anyone heard the "If you are craving something and dont eat it, then your baby will have a birthmark in that shape" tale?

    I read that one somewhere.

The heat ones are actually true - getting too hot and making your core temperature rise can be very harmful for the developing bubba.

One that made me laugh, though, was told to me by an old lady on a bus when I was pg with my first. I was holding onto the above-head hand rail (nobody offered to give me their seat ) and she told me I shouldn't lift my arms above my head because it would make the umbilical cord strangle the baby!!!

I wondered how women had gotten by for centuries, hanging their clothes out!

Oh my, I wonder if that works the same for sleeping with your arms above your head? LOL

I was told this too by an older woman who was told this by her OB when she had her kids in the 70s
