    Default Worms *warning TMI*

First of all, sorry for the tmi warning, but trust me, you'll understand as i go along.

I got a phone call from dd's daycare centre saying i needed to collect her and take her to the chemist as she had worms in her poo.

Now, they wouldnt have been grossed out as they were, if it were the normal threadworm type - the short white wriggly kind, but this thing is massive.

W (not going to use her full name) - J's fave carer, was changing her nappy when it was found. She had to pull it out of her butt (sorry for the tmi - told u it was coming). Turns out its, like 10-15cm long in length.

The pharmacist didnt know what kind of worm it was (W had "saved" it for me to show the pharmacist to try and work out what it was/why it was there) and i'm considering showing the dr on monday, to see if the combantrin J was given this morning will actually kill it, let alone identify it, if he can.

Dont know why i really posted it, but to everyone reading my really post, worm your kids, it could prevent the same thing happening to your kids too....

Well that doesn't sound like normal old tapeworms to me.

    Could it be hookworm maybe?

Whats your hospital ER like ?

I would really be taking her to see someone a.s.a.p because if it isnt the 'norm' then she really may need to have things dealt with now iykwim.

Have you googled a few of the ones it could be ?

And yes save it because maybe it wont be recognizable but its worth a shot or even take a picture of it if possible.

Another thing is to shine a torch near her bum at nite & see what happens ... This tends to show a few depending on the type ... I wont go into what others need but yeah get it looked at a.s.a.p.

    UPDATE!

Well, I took the "worm" to the drs on monday, and i got the results back yesterday morning. Turns out it wasnt a roundworm like my doctor thought (couldnt get in to see mine, so i had to see another one at the surgery - who had no idea what was going on) and she told me to bring J back in this morning....

So when we saw our dr this morning, he had actually contacted the people who tested it, to find out that it was just a really big, long, hard bit of mucous, which was just wormed shaped.

    hehe

At least she was wormed anyway... thanks everyone!

Wow, what a scare you must have had!!

hey, does your little one have a lot of dairy products? Mucous can sometimes be a little bit of an intolerance causing an irritation in the gut. Its really common among littlies. They usually grow out of it.

Just thought I would mention it.

Another really common intolerance at this age is wheat.

Might not be this of course, just thought I would mention it so you could consider it

Yea, it was. If it was roundworm, like we all suspected (thats what it looked like - even to the doctor) J would have been the first case of confirmed roundworm in South Australia for over 20 years. My little girl could've been famous!

Better to know that be in the dark and you would rather the carer be vigilant!

I'm always a fan of worming kids!!
