    Default i'm losing my mind!

    hi everyone
so i'm not exactly where to start or what to write but i think if i don't get at least some of my feelings out then i am going to explode!

i have 2 children & am suffering post-natel depression. i have been on my meds for about 5 months now but i am still not coping. after another visit to my doctor last week he has suggested that they up my dose & that i go see a psychologist.....this i am not too sure about. i feel like a nutter & will it really help?

my kids are amazing & when they are good they are great, but when they decide to chuck tantrums & have cranky days i don't know how to cope. i feel like they hate me cos they only do it with me. whenever i try to put my 6 month old son down he cries & cries but as soon as my husband holds him he falls straight to sleep!!!! i don't get it.

plus i am trying to figure out whether or not i still want to be in my marraige. my husband is driving me nutty for so many reasons. but i don't know if it's the pnd that is making me think like this.

i'm sorry if this doesn't make sense...it doesn't even make sense in my head!

Hi mummaperry...I don't think you're mad! I think it'd be a good idea to get some more help though. In my experience a psychologist is someone who can help you with strategies to cope better mentally. They don't just give you medication and a pat on the head.
Maybe it will help to talk to someone and unload a bit? It's worth a try...you need to be happy and healthy for you and for your kidlets.
Also, sometimes it can take a few months to sort out medication. If you trust your gp, I would follow his advise. Good luck these are for you

    Your not mad.

Going on anti depressants isn't a sign of weakness... I know I felt that way and wanted to just push through on my own but after nearly 4 years of doing that, I knew I was only getting worse. Going on anti depressants won't completely change your life but they can give you the bit of room to move so you can take other measures to get yourself well again, like exercise etc. I got SO much more out of my treatment when I started seeing a psychologist. Trust me, it really does help. I'm not one to like talking about my problems, in fact I hate it, but I gradually caved in and went like my doctor kept insisting, and it's been the best thing.

Don't be scared, if you really don't want to go on meds definitely try the psychologist. Give it a chance, it helps to get your thoughts in order amongst all the madness, and it's time totally dedicated to YOU and YOUR feelings which as mums, we don't get a lot of.

    Goodluck. xx

SPOT ON! I didn't start to get better until I starting seeing Psychologist - they can't prescibe meds on a Psychiatrist can. Physcologists just help with your thoughts etc.

    GOOD LUCK!

i have been suffering pnd for a while now so i can relate to your thoughts of feeling like a nut bag sometimes!! the thing that helped me the most was group therapy coupled with medication. the group therapy i attended was completely free and organised through Child Health Qld so it will depend where you live as to what is on offer but have a look on your state government website or talk to the nurses where you take your kids to baby clinic. i have only recently decided to come off my medication but i have done it so that i can see how i will go without it before we have another bub and the best thing i have done for my mental status is realise that we all have bad days and if those bad days keep coming then maybe i should go bask on my meds, that doesn't make me weak, it means i know what my body needs to help my mind function so i can get through each day. seeing a psychologist is just another way of learnign new ways to get through each day. just make sure you get one that you like, there's nothing worse than trying to open up to someone you don't like. good luck and just remember that you can do this!!
