    Default Aubergine?

OK I have a strange question. Here it is. When do you introduce your DC with aubergine? Is there any problem with giving it to your DC before she/he turns one year old? Why I'm asking is I have been told by one of my friends that aubergine has high level of nicotine which is dangerous for babies. I'm not sure if this is true. I haven't heard it before.

    thanks

Red face I've heard the same

    Hi ladybug,

Not sure as when it's ok to give bubs but thats definetly true about the nicotine. It's also found in smaller doses in potato and tomato's all part of the nightshade family. Apparentley they can also cause reflux and exzema. Hope thats of some help.

    Default Aubergine before 1 yo

    Hi Ladybug
I gave DD2 eggplant pretty early, can't remember exactly when my book said it was OK, but it would have been between 8 and 10 months. She had no problem with it, but isn't particularly reactive.

Hope this helps (I can't imagine its a big problem)

With the nutrition info that I followed for my daughter vegies in the deadly nightshade variety weren't introduced until 12 months.

Wow you learn something new everyday. Never knew this. We rarely have eggplant as it is not very popular around here although I love babaganosh (sp)

My bub is not yet up to solids so have not done much reading on this yet. This might be a silly question but what are nightshade vegetables? Is there a good book that covers all this that anyone reccomends?

    Default nightshade family

there a quite a few vegies in the nightshade family, and although I was told to avoid giving somethings to early like raw tomato and eggplant, i have always been told that potato is fine as a early introduction food, infact it was the second thing i gave my son...

the main thing with the nightshade family is that the leaves are posienious... especially the potato leaves.

    Talking feeling silly

Hey, I just had a great thought - I might give my hubby some eggplant! It'll surely be cheaper than buying all those Nicorettes!!!LOL!!!

    Default what?

wow! I had no idea? My daughter has had eggplant for a while now - her vege mash which I make in bulk and freeze has half a pumpkin, 2 carrots, one zucchini and 1 eggplant (the long skinny ones?).... surely in such a small proportion this can't be of harm? anymore info on these veges?
by the way she hasn't had a negative reaction!
