Default Worried about weight at start of pregnancy

Hey all! I stacked on a tonne of weight in my last pregnancy, I think almost 40 or 50 kilograms. I went from around 70 to 120kg. My weight has yo-yo'ed since then; but I've stayed a fairly steady 100kg.

I just found out I am pregnant again and am so worried that I am too fat to have another baby healthily? I really wanted for my health and weight to be in check before I tried again but too late! Now, my BMI says I am 30 - which is just in the obsese region (29 being overweight).

I guess I just need some peace of mind that it's not as big a drama as I'm making out. It's still a week and a half til I see a doctor. Have any lovely ladies here been pregnant and delivered healthy bubs whilst being overweight/ or what they call obese. God, I don't even *look* obese, I just look chubby!

I'm also worried about high blood pressure (I've had high blood pressure since the birth of my boy 2.5 years ago) - it only sits at about 82/5 - 145/8. So it's just verging into bad. I presume the doc will be able to manage it with medication if it's an issue? Does anyone know how often high blood pressure is linked directly to developing pre-eclampsia?

Yep. I'm definitely going through my first trimester stress period! Man!

I don't have any advice just wanted to wish you all the very best. I'm sure your weight will be fine, and if you can control your weight gained through the pregnancy that might help. I also struggle with my weight and hope I can lose some more before I fall pregnant.

    Best wishes

I am 169cm and went from 65kg size 10 to 110kg size18-20 by the birth of my first daughter... I gave birth to a healthy 7 pound baby girl even though my doctor chastised near the end of my pregnancy telling me I needed to stop eating so much icecream and drinking softdrinks (I wasn't) as I was at risk of gestational diabetes. I was also told how diffcult it would make my labour but I had a 8 hr no complication labour, 2 pushes, no stitches or pain after birth.

I also just found out I'm pregnant with # 2 due march 12th 2009 so I can completely understand your fears. I am so petrified of gaining weight this pregnancy because of the last. I guess they reccomend not gaining weight at that stage if you are "obese" (I hate using that word) But lets face it who tries to gain weight I think it just happens sometimes. I hope you do ok and best wishes and good luck with your pregnancy!

    Hi girls

I can relate, I put on a lot of weight with baby, I lost it all and then got pregnant at 78kgs now I am about 94.5+ kgs at 24 weeks pregnant, I swore that this time around I wouldn’t get near 100kg (but here I am close to 100kg again).

I am due for my next check up in 2.5 weeks and am terrified of stepping on the scales. My Dr doesn’t say anything about the weight, but for me its dealing with the discust looking in the mirror and dealing with the weight after the baby is a big issue as it took me 2.5 years to lose the weight last time and it was so had to get around as I had a ceaser and was 105kgs after having my daughter.

There is another thread on the general thread on overweight and pregnant. I don’t have junk I just like to eat carbs at every meal which for my body type means weight gain. On a typical day I have, ham low fat cheese and tomato toasted sandwich for breakfast, snack a fruit with almonds. Lunch salad and cheese roll or meat and veg roll, snack fruit with cheese. Dinner meat, carbs and some veg depending on whats on the go. Now and then I will have pizza, chips or a burger.

Take care and look out for the junk and carbs eat lots of protein, dairy, veg and fruit and limit carbs to no more than one serving a meal and it will be under control.

Im 168cm and when I conceived my DS I was 119kg. I gained 11kg during the pregnancy and was 130kg when I gave birth. He is certainly a healthy baby. He was born emergency c-section due to his cord been around his neck nothing to do with my weight. Doctors never even commented on my weight. As far as they were concerned my blood pressure and sugar levels were normal and they were more concerned about the lack of weight I had gained. At 39 weeks I had only gained 5kg... and during my pregnancy I struggled to gain weight and was eating three course meals plus three snacks a day. I was definitely hungry and couldn't eat enough food. When I had DS I weight myself 6 days later and I weight 123kg. I then went on a diet.

Three months later I discovered I was pregnant again. Not sure how that happened since I didn't have a cycle and I was BF every two hours a very hungry 3 mth old. Again I weigh in at 119kg. At 23 weeks I had gained 10kg and was 129kg, I was abit worried about this and I guess I ate abit less. At 26weeks I was 125kg - they doctors were worried I had lost weight. Within a week I become hungry and started eating three course meals, eating all day and night too now. I am now 30 weeks and weight 128kg.

I don't think been overweight in a problem for pregnancy as long as you eat well and exercise.

I too have been overweight for both my pregnancies.

Gained max of 5kgs in each.

Had two healthy babies, two natural delivieries.

Other thread that someone else mentioned is great and has lots of support and people's stories and concerns.........
