    Default Question about mastitis

I been through a round of antibiotics for it.
But my breast seems red still.. and under the nipple where it was, its still hard and the rbeast seems slightly misshapen.
There isnt really pain in it that much, i still feed her on it though it takes her a bit to get the milk flowing..

just wondering if this goes away by itsself or should I go back to the doctor?

There are no ... like lumps.. its more like a callous spaced out in lower breast under nipple... a callous thats caused boob to look a bit misshapen..

Not sure what to do about it

Is there a chance you can get checked out again? I guess it pays to be safe, it may or may not have gone thats all so if i was unsure i would be going back maybe for a second dose of antibiotics.

Keep feeding though and trying to massage that redness towards the nipple , good to hear that the pain has gone though, generally thats a good sign things are improving but, like i said if your not sure get a check up

definately get it checked again. I'm currently suffering from it and was told if it didn't improve slightly by today I was to go back as it could be an abcess.

I would really recommend that you see a lactation consultant as well as a GP. GPs unfortunately don't know a great deal about lactation and the mechanics of breastfeeding and might not be able to offer much more than another course of antibiotics (which you might well need, mind you!).

A lactation consultant is going to be able to diagnose any ongoing attachment problems that might be leading to the problem in the first place, and also help you formulate a solution to them.

Hope you find some relief soon

Feel for you, also try lettuce levefs on them or the really green cabbage leafs, cold of course. It helps draw the infection. Good luck

If there's an abnormal lump, bump or niggle on your breast, go to a breast clinic. Most hospitals would have one. I worry that it may be an abscess and while the antibiotics have got rid of the infection and the pain, the condition can deteriorate again quite quickly.

Your breast really shouldn't feel calloused or strange in any way after antibiotics. Please get it checked out.

Also, having just come off antibiotics, do remember to get your pro-biotic levels back up! The last thing you need after a bout of mastitis is a bout of thrush!

An abcess is when the infection stretching tissue out and basically leaves a gaping hole in you which can fill with liquid again and reinfect. It can be resolved sometimes (if caught in time) and other times you just have to be very vigilant to not allow yourself to get mastitis again (dealing with blocked ducts immediately).

The breast clinic will do a quick and painless ultrasound to figure out what it is.
