Default Drop in centre for young mums

I am wanting to start a drop in centre for young mums, a place where they can come for antenatal education, knowledge, support, friendship, time out etc.

I live in Morayfield and was wondering if there are any mums out there that have a similar passion that may want to get on board or just offer suggestions/ideas/advice. Anything would be greatly appreciated.

I look forward to any replies.

    Hi Maorimama,

I am also part of the Happy Mums Centre in Brisbane and what you are wanting to do is EXACTLY what we are currently setting up. We would love to have you on board! Would you like to be on our committee, helping us make critical decisions, providing leadership and purpose for the centre?

We have a fundraising event booked for 24th August and have alot of work to do before we can open the centre in September.

Anyone else interested please don't be afraid to get in touch. We are currently meeting every Monday morning @ 10am at the playground across from the Piaza at Southbank. Everyone is welcome

Thank you for the replies, I would love to jump on board with those that have already started the process and would eventually love to see this type of service available in more suburbs to make them accessible to every young mum.
If you would like to contact me my email address is tnepia@gmail.com.

I look forward to being involved in something great.

    Hi,

I'd love to be a part of something like this. I am only 18 myself and have a 9 week old son. I'd really like to help other girls in my situation. I cop so many dirty startes from people out in public because I'm carrying a little baby and it really upset me at first, plus after I had bubs I really needed people who understood what it was like to have kids at a young age to talk to. Please PM me details

    Hi all.
I also have something like this in place in Tassie.

It is ALOT of hard work to actual get something like this up and running!!!!! It means ALOT of commitment, in and out of meetings, building relationships etc, and with a young one, it makes it doubley hard!!!!

I would love to help anyone out with what i have learnt so far. So please PM me if i can be of assistance to you. My centre will be open in October and i have been working onit since the start of the year, it is alot of hard work but if you have the passion to drive you, you will get there in the end.
    good luck with your ventures

There's not really anything like this in Campbelltown. I think there's a few groups that run in Ambarvale/Bradbury, but being in Camden its too far for me!
They run a Young Mum's group for <20's in the midwives clinic out of Campbelltown hospital that runs for 10 weeks and is excellent. Its run by a great midwife, along with 2 of the lovely social workers.
There's one out of Traxside (sp) I think, but its a group once a week I think... Sorry if none of this makes sense, I'm sick and have a sick bub too, so am a little sleep deprived.

If you decide to do anything like this in Camden Ains, PM me! I'd love to be involved!
