Unhappy Newborn In Nursey Or With You In Your Bedroom

We are trying to decide if it is best to put bub when we bring them home in our room or straight into nursey

SIDS site recommends they be with you for at least 6-12 months

also trying to decide on whether to put cot in our room or get a bassinett for our room and leave cot in nursery - only problem is that i havent found anything in form or bassinett i really like - they all seem a little flimsy and not very stable - am worried i will get up in the middle of night and knock over bassinett

have thought of the port a cots which have the bassinett mattress in them at a raised level together with change table

but very confused as to what to do ??? any recommendations would be appreciated

A bassinete next to the bed is what I done. I had a Love n Care one, it was pretty good and sturdy. My dd went into her own cot in her own room at about 4 months old, to get her used to it we put the bassinete inside the cot for a week or so.

We had a bassinet in our room (in the corner where we couldn't knock it!!! and a cot wouldnt' have fit.) DD was in there for 4 months until she got too big at which point she moved into her own room.

I knwo some people who use a portacot with the bassinet at the top and loved it. We found the bassinet really convenient but it was a hand-me-down so i dont know if it would be worth buying for the tiem they're in it.

The nurses will probably reccomend to you to put bubs in room with you till about 12 months old. You will probably find it the easiest way also when they are so little as you are up and down so much during the night.

I didn't use a basinet with the boys but I did use the portacot with the basinet insert in it. This could save you a bit of money in the long run as you will not have to buy a basinet and portacot and once bubs is finished with the portacot basinet insert part you can easily use the cot for when you go away etc.

With the boys I have used a portacot fulltime as they can't get there legs and arms caught up in the rails like in a regular cot.

We are putting bubs in our room while still in a bassinette, mainly because i want to wait until bubs has a decent sleeping routine so DS doesnt wake up all the time.

we never used bassinets, both went straight into a cot. DD went straight into her own room from day one and she learned how to self settle through different sleep cycles really well. DS was in his cot in our room for the first 2-3 months until we moved into a bigger house so he could have his own room, we're still having issues with him waking at night. With our next baby, we will be putting them in our room in the cot for I don't know how long because we won't have enough rooms for one each.
I personally don't see the point of a bassinet, a lot of people who use them seem to have trouble transitionning to a cot later on. I say, if you have the space in your room for a cot, just go straight for the cot. It's safer too, with a firm mattress and the sheets tucked in with the baby at the bottom, it is the safest way, plus there would be a lot more air to breathe when in a cot as opposed to a bassinet due to size and bars on the sides rather than closed walls.

My DS was only in a bassinette for the first 7 weeks of his life, then we moved to Oz.MIL had brought a cot so he went in there while we stayed with them.
DS pretty much co-slept with us fulltime,I felt alot better knowing he was right there so I could check him.
DS2 will be going into his bassintte in our room as long as poss, then we will go from there.

i have bubs in my room in a cradle, they r bigger than a bassinet, and bubs can stay in them longer and they r made from wood so they r stronger. and u can rock them to sleep.

Depending on bub but you will be getting up several times a night to deal with feeding changing etc.. I found it best to have my bubs in my room as it was more comfortable for us both. Found I went back to sleep better and so did baby. I had my firdst three in a bassinette next to the bed for the first few months but got this great little bassinette that went in my bed this time with a little night light in it she is right next to me and I cant roll over on her. I put my babies in a porta cot as I had a cot collapse on one of them (scary) Think it is all down to what you are comfortable with if something does not feel right dont do it good luck and well wishes

I set up the cot in my room, since it's going to be there for 12 months, why not?

It's just so much easier, with feeding/settling/nappy changing etc. Plus, you have peace of mind, and your baby has peace of mind knowing you're nearby.

I would definately recommend putting the cot in your room for twleve months!
