My little girl was born at 10lbs 4oz (that's 4670grams). So she was a BIG GIRL.

I had a few 0000 and a few 000 outfits for her...and I think it REALLY depended on the brand. She could fit into some of her 0000 outfits quite well as well as some 000 outfits. Even at her size, some of her 000 outfits SWAM on her.

What I found was this: Bonds sizes are generally kind of small. Get 000 in Bonds. Best and Less brands are big. I'd get a few 0000 jumpsuits from there. (They have awesome zip-up styles which are cheap...but if you get 000, even if you have a fatty bub like mine...they'll probably be too big!). Pumpkin Patch outfits are also very small. I'd get 000 from them.

As a general rule, I'd get mostly 000 but get a FEW 0000 just in case you have a little one. You don't need his/her legs getting lost in the middle of the jumpsuit!
I've now lost 36kg thanks to the gastric sleeve!

I'm not sure whether to purchase a couple of 0000 suits just in case, or just stick with my 000 and send someone out for a few 0000's should they be too big!!

    Anyone got any advice????

WOW - you're the only person that I've ever 'heard' say pumpkin patch outfits are small. I think ALL pp sizes are huge!! DD can comfortably wear size 00 all in ones from there but in other brand all in ones shes in an 0... in bonds shes almost in a1.

When she grew into target size 0000, she also 'grew into' pumpkin patch size Prem which is 00000. Its amazing how different our kids all are with some people finding sizes bigger and some finding them smaller, all depends on body shape... long thin baby is obviously going to outgrow sizes faster than short chubby one

I also agree my daughter was in 00000 when she was born and she is almost 5weeks and still in 0000 and she was 3.3kg and 51 cm long. The 000 are huge she wont be in them for ages. I now know to go by the kg and cm in the tag of the outfits not just the 0's, as most of the 000 are for 62cm and 6kg.

I agree 000 have definitely gotten bigger.
My DD was 7lb 3oz and quite long and she was in 0000's for at least a month.
    Triple O's just flogged her.

I agree with the majority of the others! Definatly get some 0000!! My second son was 9lb6 and fit into 00000 for a few days! He was in 000 by the time he was 2 weeks, but they would have swum on him when he was first born!

My first son was born in the UK, where sizes are different...he was 8lb10, but a real fatty baby, so i think he would have gtone straight into 0000.

About the pumpkin patch sizing....i only have 2 things from them...both bodysuits, both the 'newborn' size....One fit my sons when they were about 2 weeks old...the other didn't fit until they were nearly 6 months!

if you buy a couple of bonds wondersuits in 000 it should fit without the need to buy 0000 as the wondersuits will stretch nicely with bub as they grow. but if you want to buy 0000 wash one to take to hospital with you and leave the tags on the others so you can swap them for a larger size if you need to. try to resist the urge to cut off any tags on clothes given as presents too. as i did and it is harder to exchange them for larger sizes without tags.

My kids were 8pd12oz and 7pd6oz born. I did not use 0000 at all.

    BUT....

Something you need to consider is whether you are using disposble or cloth nappies. We used cloth nappies - you need a bigger size for the clothes to fit the nappy and pilcher in!! Especially when the baby is newborn and the nappy can be a bit bulky.

I am probably going against the grain here but I think that using weight can backfire when buying baby clothes. My daughter was 6lb 6oz when she was born and the only things that fit her were 00000 (5 zeros). Four zeros and above just swamped her. Luckily I had bought some sets from Target which had 7 pieces in them (jackets, all in ones, pants, tshirts, singlets, hats and bibs) in five zeros just in case. Harriet didn't wear 0000 for quite a few weeks, I think from memory she was 3months before they started to fit. She is now 9mths old and is only just starting to wear 00 (weight 16lb 12oz). Let's face it - we never know exactly how heavy our babies are going to be - and how quickly they will grow! One of my friend's son is 3mths old and weighs exactly the same weight as Harriet is now so they all grow at their own speed.
