    Default 000 vs 0000

    Ok... I'm a little confused....

At present I haven't bought any 0000 suits for first up after bubs is born....

I have heard heaps of conflicting stories as to whether 0000 or 000 are more suitable for "hospital bag"....

I'm not sure whether to purchase a couple of 0000 suits just in case, or just stick with my 000 and send someone out for a few 0000's should they be too big!!

    Anyone got any advice????

I'd stick with 000's. Don't bother with 0000's, as bub (assuming an average size) wikll grow out of them within a month-if that. 000's last until about 3 months, then 00's until about 6 months. Even 0's only last until about a year and then it's into size 1's. But 1's do fit for more than six months. Unless bubby is early and really small you can get by with 000's. If by chance bub is bigger then 9lb (not wishing this at you by any means) 0000's will not fit at all.
    Good luck.

I have a fair few 0000 rompers.. and a few less 000 rompers, instead more cute outfits in the 000 range.

    Kmart's size guide says 0000 - 3 months, then 000... so that's a bit of what I go by...
    And 0000 look so cute.

Well personally i dont see much point in spending money on something they might not even fit into... 000 is the basic size for a newie....
when ds2 was born i had a 0000 jacket that i bought from an op shop for 50 cents.. it just fit him, then it was back to the op shop...
if you can grab some smaller sized clothes at op shops, paying only 50 cents an item.. that would ideally be your best bet...
otherwise. i would be pretty certain that 000 would be the go!

When myDS#1 was born, 0000's were a new concept. Until then it was nearly all 000's. I agree with Jem-a few bits from the op shop are usually money well spent items.

000 are huge these days, I'm going against the majority here and saying definitely get some 0000.

DD was 5lb 12 but she didnt even grow into 0000's til she was 7lbs and she was in them til she was 11lbs when she was almost 4 months old. If I wasnt prepared Iwould have had to have rushed out and bought a heap of new clothes for her cos there was no WAY I could have put her in 000's!

DD is now 9.5 months and she is big for her age (on the 75th for weight and height) and shes perfectly in size 00 in basically everything except wondersuits shes in an 0.

An average sized baby si 7-8lbs and that is perfect for 0000 clothes and they lose weight before they start gaining. I just had a look and DD at 6 weeks old was only 1.5lbs heavier than at birth because of the losing weight first thing as well.... and she grew well!!! (obviously she went from being under the 3rd for weight and length at birth to over the 75th now!)

Ditto here. My bub was 8lb 2oz and I had 5 x 0000 all-in-one suits with feet for him. Lasted about 5 or 6 weeks, but the 000 were ridiculously huge on him. I was the first in my group of friends to have a bub and have passed Nathan's 0000 suits on to the next bub, which in turn are about to be handed on to the next one.

A general infant clothing tip with sizes... BONDS are half a size smaller than most other makes. E.g Target 000 - Bonds 00 - Target 00 - Bonds 0 - Target 0... (smallest to largest) so if DS was starting to grow out of the Target stuff, he would fit perfectly in the Bonds next size up.

Also, wondersuits (bonds) are great but only get them for when bub is under 6 months, because after that the feet may not fit and you'll find that you can't get much wear out of them.

And my final clothing tip! For 0000 and 000 buy as much simple clothing as you can - no fancy stuff - such as all-in-one suits, singlets etc. Who can be bothered with jeans or overalls or shoes on a 10 week old?!? As if you haven't got it hard enough already trying to get a hang of everything without complicated clothing to boot! From 00 though I started to buy more separates such as T-shirts and shorts or pants for bub instead of the all-in-ones. Separates give you more longevity - I have 00 t-shirts and shorts that bub has been wearing for 6 months now! That's good value! All-in-ones are more fitted and bub grows out quicker due to length restrictions etc.

Hope this helps! Good luck with it all.

I agree. My mum told me not to bother with the 000's and that my bub would soon grow out of them. He was 7lb 9oz and 51cm and he fit into 0000 till he was 13 weeks old - when he was 5.5kilos. He is now 8 kilos and into 00's, with some 000's still fitting! He had a major growth spurt and his 000's didn;t fit him for very long at all. When he was born we only had mainly 000's and had to go out and buy a whole heap of smaller stuff to get through. Def agree that BONDS are very small, but found that Target and Pumpkin Patch sizes are very generous. The newborn (0000) stuff we were given from PP fit him through the most of summer - he was born in November.

My best friend had a 4.5kilo daughter and she also wore 0000 for about the first three or four weeks.

    Hope this helps x

I've had 3 babies, and only ever bothered with 000. I considered 0000's to be a waste of money.

#1 and #2 were 3350gm, and got quite a while out of the 000's, but #3 was 4145gm, and the 000 bondsuits would not do up on him after he was born, he was too big across the chest.
