    Default nappy rash or thrush?

Could someone please tell me the difference between nappy rash and thrush. My seven month old has a rash that I can't quite get rid of, it used to be quite red and sore looking. Now it has calmed right down, but I can't quite get rid of it and if she has her nappy off she scratches. Could this be more than nappy rash?

    Hi Tasmum,

I have been going through the same thing myself with my DS. He doesn't normally suffer with nappy rash and when he does, we smother him even more so in Sudocrem and it normally fixes it. He recently had some antibiotics for a throat infection and since then had noticed his little bottom being red where his little cheeks meet and then peters out to little red dots like a rash around the edges. I wasn't sure if it was thrush or not so I went to the chemist and asked if they had an antifungal cream I could try. There is a cream called Daktozin which is antifungal cream mixed with a zinc nappy cream especially for babies bottoms and we have been using it for about 2 days now and the result is amazing. Worked fantastic!! Am so pleased with the result and will keep using it for about another week as I know that even if you cannot see thrush it could still be there.

    Good luck,
    Nita

DD has this the other week my gp told me that generally if a rash doesnt show sign of improvement after 3-4 days then its thrush or you may need a anti fungal cream. Maybe take her to your gp to get her checked out?

Just serched for some answers before i started a new thread and found this one. So hopefully this gets picked up

DD's rash, which is very rare for her is not going away.

So after reading this I think it may be thrush. do i have to go to a GP or just a pharmasist?

What can cause the thrush, if that is what it is.

She hasn't been on medication but we had been using the Brauers Teething relief a bit. Although being a natural medicine i wouldn't have thought she would react to it.

When she has had nappy rash, it's a gone with a big lathering of Bepantham in hours.

    Hi there,

Not sure about the teething relief and that causing thrush, but if she is teething I had heard that can cause a red bottom of some sorts. Thrush is caused by healthy bacteria being killed off by antibiotics fighting infections which is what happened to my little DS. I didn't go to the GP, just the chemist to buy the Daktozin cream for his bottom and it went away with 24 hours. Maybe try this and see how you go and if no better then pop her off to the GP.

    Good luck,
    Nita
