I cried... for those children

Did anyone see the Chernobyl story on 60 minutes tonight 16th April 2006 and the children that are orphaned? I felt like, then and there packaging all my son's toys up and sending them over there.
I am pregnant with my second and saw the baby's in the humidi cribs and cried again. How I have taken forgranted the well being of my unborn baby. I just expect there to be nothing wrong with my son but these stories bring it home that some baby's are dying somewhere in the world because of nuclear disasters.

I didnt see that, but i have seen a documentary on it before, and i too sobbed for those poor little ones. did they show the orphanges with those poor little angels and their horrific disabilities and deformities? and they recieve very very minimal care, those poor, dear little things, im going to cry again just thinking about it.

just reading your posts. It was exactly what you described, all their deformities, poor care and facilities etc. It is so heartbreaking, I wonder if they take donations or something.
There were some UK carpenters working there in their holiday breaks to fix the poor state of the buildings up, what wonderful people they are.

I cried too. Bawled my eyes out. Some of those kids in the orphanages didn't have names.

It is so tempting to turn over the channel (same with the road accident ads on in Queensland at the moment) but if we do that we are ignorant of the plight of these kids. It is such a lottery, you don't get to choose where you are born or who to - that is why we need to care about more than just those kids in our own community or backyard.

Yep tis always sad

I remember in high school when we learnt about it all we became to motivated we sent over loads of packages of toys & the likes to an orphange as well as raising money for a school.
What was more inspiring that we got our principal involved & she worked together with us & some charities so a few months later we were able to have a couple of the kids from the school come out & visit with us. They were so inspirational it still makes me get all choked up

Sometimes we take what we have for granted & sometimes it takes a reality check to bring us back to this world.

I will never, ever forget the doco on 'The Dying Rooms' in China.

That story has never left me.

It showed these poor little girls thrown into a so called orphanage in China.
Because of the one child rule in China, most people wanted boys so girls were left to die.

They were tied to high chairs and left there to fend for themselves with no adult contact.

One little girl was locked in a room and starved to death. She had a Chinese name which meant 'no name'.

I think about that show often. Especially when I hear people winging about unimportant things.

I haven't seen the story you are speaking of, but I am sure it would effect me just as much.

No story on TV annoys me more than sad stories about defensless children.

Another thing on this subject that I read the other day was that a survey found that more people care about the price of fuel than they do about child abuse.

That disgusts me!
