Default Buying a doll for a toddler - advice please!

I'm thinking of buying a doll for my DD - now my dilemma is do I buy her a cheapish standard doll and buy 2 of them so that if shock horror it ever goes missing then I have another one to replace it or buy a nicer specialised one like Cabbage Patch which is a bit more unique?

When I was little I remember losing my dolly and I was heartbroken. No other doll came close to replacing her so that's why I'm wondering whether to just get 2 of the same... unfortunately you can't get the same Cabbage Patch dolls etc...

Or what doll would you recommend? Any other good ones out there? Is one better than the other? What about those ones that make sounds, drink, pee or just get a standard plain one that won't break down?

You can get standard dolls in a *twin pack*, you could just take one of them and put it away just incase, or she can play with both of them.

I got a baby born for DD - best money ever spent. There are accessories available that are good quality, clothes - both BB brand clothes and home mades from ebay etc, and most pumpin patch teddy clothes fit

There are anatomically boys and girls available

They dont need batteries and they go in water!!!!

Newborn nappies fit the BB doll as well

Same babyborn is great!! My ten year old got one when she was about 4 and now miss 3's using it its lasted quiet a while and its durable and well its been through a heck of a lot LOL! Plus i found that tiny baby clothes fitted too (size 000000) it is easy to clean you just wipe it over. If your crafty you could make a few cloth nappies, otherwise dd just uses a facewasher folded with her nappy cover i made her

Best money i ever spent as well or us, oh we also got a cheap $12 stroller from big w for it and a $15 bed so its a spoilt doll

I would go a nice one but thats me & im a sucker for the cutie dolls

I still had my 'My Child' from when i was little so as soon as i found her i gave her to Boof ... He absolutely adores her & im glad to have "passed her on" so to speak even if he trashes her much to my distress !

We are giving Squeak his own little doll but its a soft type one for his birthday so he has one & if he wants a 'My Child' when he is older then i will look for one for him even though they now cost a fortune ! But i just adore them so much !

Hmmm baby born? Will have to check it out... the only baby born I have heard of is the Baby Bjorn carrier and that's no cheapie... LOL

I like the idea of dressing it and putting nappies on it...

Do they come in twin packs? LOL

oh BTW - do you usually buy a girl doll for a girl and a boy doll for a boy? (I'm being a progressive mum and buying a doll for my boy ) Or do you just let the child choose or what?

We have heaps of dolls and they seem to change their favourite one each day

I do know that dolls that have the blinking eyes are a big hit. My youngest DD loves them.

Also dolls that you can put dummies and bottles in their mouth. Also a big +++++++

Good luck in choosing, it will probably take you all day knowing how many are on the market.

They occassionally come in twin packs

I bought a non-gender doll for DS when I was pregnant - but he was only interested for a short while

DD now has a boy and a girl baby born and we treat them as "twins"

I bought 4 cheap dolls for the kinder from the op shop. There was two boys and two girls dolls (anatomically correct). The kinder teacher says that the boys only play with the dolls spasmodically

I'd borrow a doll for your DS for awhile from a toy library just to measure his interest

yeh I bought a doll from ToysRUs - graco or something.

I have since bought a bottle and a dummy, a bib, a nappy etc for it. Also a capsule, a pram etc.

    0000 clothes fit it too.

It is actually cloth tummy with hard head, legs and arms, and can be washed etc.

    my DD LOVES IT

ohhhh now this isn't making it easy to choose is it!!!

With a cloth/soft body does that mean I can just toss the thing in the washing machine?

Or would a plastic body be easier for wipe down?

Good idea about waiting and not buying one for DS just yet....
