Default Do your kids share a room?

This is a never ending discussion in our house which is a bit funny since we're only pg with #1. But we'd love to have a family of four and we live in a spacious three bedroom plus granny flat. I love our house and the area so chances are we'll be here for a long time which means to fit a family of six in then the kids would need to share rooms.

As an only child I don't really have too much experience in this field. Can't really see a problem as alot of my friends shared rooms with their siblings growing up. DH hates the idea though. He and his brother fought like cat and dog when they were teenagers and had separate rooms (sometimes I wonder whether they may have gotten on better if they did share a room ).

But realistically if DH wants a spare room and a separate study and four kids with their own rooms that's a 7 bedroom house .

So did you share a room growing up or do your kids share a room now? How did/does it work out?

My sis and I shared a room up until there was another room put onto the house. My 2 girls share a room and the 2 boys share a room.

I shared a room with my sister from the day she was born. We hated it most of our lives! Now though, we're extremely close so it didn't do too much damage

Our sons share a room, have done since they were 2 and 3. They claim they hate it but as soon as we move one out, they're sleeping together anyway!

    I shared up until I was 17!

We had four kids in a (SMALL) three bedroom house. We were jealous of kids who had their own rooms, but we'd never known any different so it wasn't a big deal.

My DH and I have this argument too, as I want three kids in our three bedroom home and don't want to move just for all kids to have their own rooms.

I think sharing a room promotes family togetherness in general. I like the idea. If my second (so far non-existent) baby is a girl, I would still have my DS and DD share a room while the third baby was young as I don't think it matters when they're so young.

    Hope that makes sense...

Why not talk to your dh about a compromise? The kids could share a room until XX age (say 10 or so) and then move into their own rooms. Gives you time to build a shed out the back for him

I shared a room with my sister (we grew up in a 2 bedroom flat), and it was great until I started highschool. I had no where to study - couldn't do it in the kitchen cause dad was always cooking. Couldn't do it in the lounge room cause there was no room, and couldn't do it in 'my' room cause my sister was sleeping or 'needed her space' (according to mum and dad - she was the youngest).

My advice would be that sharing a room is fine - just have somewhere in the house that the kids can play/study/etc that won't bug you or your dh.

I shared with two sisters until I was 14, and two of my sisters shared until they left home, and we rarely fought over bedrooom issues

Two of my bro's shared and again rarely fought over bedroom issues

My DS 7 and DD 4 shared a room and a double bed until a few months ago. In fact, DS will often prefer to sleep in DD's bed and they enjoy each others company.

Sharing bedrooms in a large family is just part of having a large family.

I find it amazing that the family that originally owned our little 3 bedroom 10 square house had 7 kids.

I shared with my younger sis for as far back as I can remember.
We (as in I) found it to be a huge pain in the bum.
Now we are the best of friends, seeing each other every day!!!
My boys share a room now. They love it. Any time they argue, I tell them I will put them in seperate rooms. Stops the argument right away..

I shared a room with one of my sisters up until I was 13...then my parents added some rooms and then my sis & I (the two eldest) got our own rooms. I hated sharing, get along better with my sisters when we aren't sharing the same space...we all get along great now that none of us live in the same house LOL...

We live in a three bedroom house and are expecting baby #3 in Nov. We are still not sure who will end up sharing a room, at this stage it will be DD & bub coz DS is at school now and doesn't need his sleep disturbed. I guess we'll see how things go, I really like where we live right now and don't want to move for a few years at least (hopefully we can stay where we are until wwe can buy a house).
Big Brother ~ 7yrs...wishes he was 10 LOL

Baby Brother ~ way closer to 2yrs than I'd like.

I shared a room with my sister when we were little, only the two of us so we had the choice. Most of the time we wanted to share, until teenage years. I think it promotes sharing and respecting others. And we are very close as adults. We had to move recently due to having triplets!! Watch out what you aim for, we were going for no 4. Now we have moved into a five bedroom house, The bigger kids have their own room and the triplets share. (prob always will) The kids always seem to want to sleep with each other anyway, but this way i can send them all to their own room when the fight too much. he he. Not sure what i do when the trip's are older and fighting.

My sisters and step sisters and I shared rooms at one stage there was 4 of us in the one room.

At the moment Hayley and Skye share a room but when they're older they can have their own rooms. We have a three bedroom house, the third bedroom is being used as a playroom with a tv in it for the kids.

It is ok sharing a room if you all get along but it can be a nightmare especially when they're teenagers and they want/need their own space.

I think its fine when they're only little (though sometimes my two muck around when they're supposed to be sleeping)
