We put DS in a big bed around 18mths old. This was just before I found out I was preggers. He had a room move too so it was a bit tricky but we set up both the cot & bed and let him sleep in the cot for about a month. He was more than able to climb out of the cot and many a morning we would find him in the bed. I just said to him one morning 'no more cot' & filled it with his toys and he had no probs.

DS2 has been sleeping on his cot mattress next to my bed for the last 5mnths (roughly) and we just got his single bed set up today. He is 22mnths old now. Cant wait to see if he'll sleep in it tonight.

I think your DD will be fine Just make a big deal about being a big girl now etc etc.

My DS was only 13 months (walked at 9mths so was very stable)
we moved house and i had 2 months left before 2nd bub arrived
So we set him up a new room with his big boy bed

He did really well until baby was born and then he decided he would get up with me during the night

I tried for a week to keep him in bed then i gave up i close the door to the living area and he only had access to our bedroom and id just shut off the lights and go back to bed that lasted 3 nights and he stopped getting up

Now DD is 12 months and we just bought her new bed and she will be in there in the next month or so

We never used a side rail for DS we just put the cot mattress beside his bed incase he fell out
(always fine sleeping in my bed & the couch)
He fell out maybe 3 times over 2 weeks and hasnt done it again

dd went into a bed when she was 19mths. I made her bed look really pretty with a nice doona cover, new sheets, and put her special toys at the head of the bed. I also got her a princess bed rail. She's loved her bed from day 1. No complaints or jealousy of bub being in her old cot. She used to get out of bed a fair bit in the beginning and scare the cr@@ out of me with waking up with her looking at me! But I put a door barrier up which meant she could only stay in her room but could still have her door open so she wasn't separated from us.

We put DD1 into her bed at around 20 months, DD2 was 5 months old at the time and getting too big for the cradel. The first night took her a little while to settle in but then she was really good.

It was DD2 first night in her bed last night, she is nearly 17 months. So far she is doing ok but she is now sharing a room with DD1 so there is abit of chatter and giggles before they finally go to sleep .
